Location: Jefferson City, MO 65109

Duration: Contract (4+ Months)

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8 A.M. to 5 P.M (Some evening or weekend hours may be required to engage with school communities and parents.)

Job Summary:

  • As part of the Missouri Wastewater Surveillance Program team, this position will facilitate a school-based fentanyl wastewater testing project. This project aims to address public health concerns related to opioid use through wastewater testing for opioids, data-driven insights, and community engagement. This Environmental Program Specialist will play a key role in building strong relationships with schools, parents, and other stakeholders while ensuring effective project execution. Key


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Communication with Schools and Parents : Serve as the primary point of contact for schools and parents, providing updates, addressing concerns, and delivering clear, accessible educational materials.
  • Data Analytics and Interpretation : Oversee wastewater sample collection, collaborate with laboratories to interpret testing results, and communicate findings in actionable and understandable ways.
  • Program Coordination : Manage project logistics, including sampling schedules and laboratory testing, while ensuring adherence to safety standards and program protocols.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration : Facilitate meetings and updates with stakeholders to ensure transparency and effective collaboration.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • College Degree : Bachelor's degree in environmental science, public health, biology, engineering, or related field.
  • Public Health Knowledge: Understanding of public health issues, especially opioid use and wastewater testing methodologies.
  • Data Visualization Expertise: Experience using software tools like Tableau to present data insights visually.
  • Community Engagement: Previous experience working in community outreach or public health initiatives.
