Analyst Principal - Payroll

SUMMARY

The Principal Payroll Analyst performance entails executing functions and processes with a commitment to strict confidentiality and adherence to company policies. This contribution facilitates a seamless payroll process, ensuring the workforce receives precise and punctual compensation, thus fostering a positive and fulfilling work environment. Additionally, collaborates with various departments, including Benefits, Human Resources, Accounting, Legal, field locations, and employees across all organizational levels to support departmental duties and responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide expert-level support and guidance to resolve complex payroll inquiries and issues.
  • Processes on a recurring basis, certain payroll and manages all pre and post payroll steps required to process to completion
  • Serves as SME Lead with projects and/or system implementation efforts by participating in the overall project, working directly with project team members, and appropriate functional SME's to provide expertise as well as collect, communicate and organize required data.
  • Conduct in-depth market research, competitive analysis, and industry benchmarking to identify emerging trends and opportunities.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior payroll analysts.
  • Conduct training sessions on payroll processes, policies, and compliance for HR, managers, and employees.
  • Streamline workflows, automate manual tasks, and enhance data accuracy and integrity.
  • Retains a comprehensive understanding of all relevant federal/provincial laws concerning payroll, including but not limited to garnishments, benefits, and taxes.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data and processes to identify and resolve discrepancies or errors.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including changes in salary, benefits, tax withholding, and other relevant information.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies regarding payroll processing, tax withholding, and reporting.
  • Stay updated on payroll-related laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Prepares on-demand manual checks and adjustment entries as needed.
  • Performs any additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned
  • Promotes a positive Company image at every opportunity.
  • Complies with all Company policies and procedures.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or 8 years plus years of payroll experience in a large computerized multi-state payroll function.
  • Payroll experience is required, and additional experience in Human Resources, Accounting, or Finance is a plus.
  • Proficient understanding of payroll processes, calculations, and functions.
  • Knowledge of Workday Payroll and time management systems is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to learn new databases and applications is required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; detail-oriented.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Significant digital dexterity, e.g. using computer keyboard is required. Use of oral communication to perform work is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an open office concept. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
