Overview
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This position is a temporary-full-time position anticipated to last up to 60 working days and will be located at NASA's White Sands Test Facility in the Technical Services Department. Responsibilities
Mechanic Welder, Jr.:
Must be able to apply technical knowledge to solve problems that cannot be solved solely by reference to manufacturer's manuals or similar documents.
- Possess a basic knowledge of various equipment (bender, shear, metal worker, grinders, various hand tools etc.) used for fabrication.
- Have a basic knowledge of various alloys and prepare materials for welding.
- Must possess technical knowledge and skills in all areas of welding and fabrication including but not limited to: welding (GTAW, SMAW, GMAW), cutting (oxygen-acetylene and plasma), fitting, and layout.
- Must be able to perform basic layout work, perform tack work for welders.
- Performs work and maintains work area in a neat, orderly, and safe manner.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Mechanic Welder:

- Have an advanced knowledge of various alloys and prepare materials for welding.
- Must possess technical knowledge and skills in all areas of welding and fabrication including but not limited to: welding (GTAW, SMAW, GMAW), cutting (oxygen-acetylene and plasma), fitting, and layout.
- Must be able to prepare materials, select proper procedures, set up and operate all types of welding equipment required in the fabrication, modification, installation and repair of buildings, equipment, site installations, components, vehicles, etc.
- Must be able to work well with others and provide quality and timely welding support services in a team environment.
- Performs work and maintains work area in a neat, orderly, and safe manner.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Qualifications
Mechanic Welder, Jr. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of applicable welding experience or training. Must pass SMAW qualification in 1G & 2 G positions on plate prior to hire.
Mechanic Welder Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of applicable welding experience or training. Education Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a physical examination as determined by the WSTF physical examinations requirements for the job classification. Be able to meet the requirements for certification, if applicable, as specified in the White Sands Training Database (WSTD).
