Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $44,200 - Midpoint: $55,300 (Salaried E6)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Communications Specialist I writes and edits communications for a department, college, and/or division under general supervision. Develops and implements plans, activities, and tactics to support the goals of assigned areas. Coordinates the production of materials and resources through a variety of platforms, including digital and physical mediums.

Additional Department Summary: Working in collaboration with the Division of Strategic Communications, the Communications Specialist is responsible for communications with the community and University via publications and other avenues. Writes, edits and designs feature stories, news stories and promotional materials published by the alumni publications department in the Office of Alumni Affairs, both for print and online distribution. Participates in planning and execution of special projects to support the department's overall communications strategies. This position functions as the assistant editor of the "Alabama Alumni Magazine" and is also responsible for maintaining the social media accounts for the National Alumni Association.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A cover letter, resume, and writing and design samples must be submitted.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of the print production process. Experience with both MACs and PCs using InDesign, Photoshop and Microsoft Office programs is required, along with a command of Associated Press writing style.

Preferred Qualifications: A strong writer/editor who also has experience in designing publications with Adobe InDesign is preferred. Experience with Adobe Illustrator is a plus.
