Fleet Technology Technician

Waste Connections is seeking a skilled Fleet Technology Technician to join our team in Wichita, Kansas. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of technologies in waste collection vehicles. This includes dash cameras, radios, CAN systems, GPS devices, and other electronic systems critical to the operation and compliance of the fleet. The ideal candidate has strong electrical skills, attention to detail, and experience working with vehicle electronics and third-party technology vendors. The ideal candidate has strong self motivation and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

We offer competitive pay, starting at $28 per hour with monthly safety bonuses.

Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain fleet mobile technology, including dash cameras, GPS units, communication radios, and telematics systems.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on vehicle electrical systems, including wiring and CAN (Controller Area Network) systems.
  • Collaborate with third-party technology providers to resolve equipment or software issues, implement updates, and complete system integrations.
  • Onboard new camera systems and ensure data connectivity and proper configuration per company standards.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Work closely with the fleet maintenance team to ensure minimal downtime during installations or repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of all technology installations, configurations, service, and repairs.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company policies.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of fleet technology systems and processes.
  • Provide technical support and training to drivers and other staff on use of onboard systems.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in vehicle electrical systems or fleet technology support.
  • Strong knowledge of 12V/24V electrical systems, CAN bus, and diagnostic tools.
  • Hands-on experience with dash camera systems, radios, GPS/telematics, or similar technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills for interfacing with vendors and the internal team.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors and in/under vehicles in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and operate basic power tools.
  • May require occasional travel between company sites.
