Duties and Responsibilities |
The
Senior Director for the Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy and Law School Professional and Continuing Legal Education provides high level administrative and operational leadership and oversight for the Beazley Institute for Health Law. In support of the Institute's mission and in partnership with the Faculty Director(s), the Senior Director's primary areas of responsibility include:
- Strategic planning
- Administrative oversight and supervision
- Marketing and external relations
- Student advising
In addition, the Senior Director innovates and sets trends in professional and continuing legal education to help Loyola University Chicago become recognized as the leading provider of continuing legal education in the State of Illinois. The Senior Director is responsible for partnering with Law School Leadership, and Faculty experts in current and emerging areas of Law to oversee and execute the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and events related to the professional development and continuing education for Law Students, Alumni, and members of the legal community. This includes:
- Leading and implementing the strategic vision for professional and continuing legal education;
- Promoting innovation and creativity in this area;
- Facilitating the transformation of our offerings and ways of engaging with our target audiences;
- Assessing continuing education needs of Alumni in the local Chicago area and nationally to expand our market and reach; and
- Elevating our reputation as a leading Law School.
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Strategic Planning: The Senior Director acts as a strategic partner to the Beazley Faculty and the Law School's Dean's Office, Administrative Leaders, and other offices including the Offices of Admissions, Advancement, Career Services, and Graduate and Online Programs, to further University and Law School mission, priorities, and initiatives. This requires partnering with the Beazley Faculty Director(s) to develop and implement Strategic Planning initiatives that advance the reputation of the Beazley Institute and keeping abreast of trends to innovate and remain competitive in the field.
Administrative Oversight and Supervision: In alignment with Law School and Beazley priorities, policies, and business practices, the Senior Director manages all Institute operations, ranging from office procedures to budget management and purchasing to course support, conference planning and Key partners include the Offices of the Dean, Graduate and Online Programs, and the Registrar. Additionally, the Senior Director supervises the Program Coordinator, ensuring that the administrative and programmatic needs of the Beazley Institute - including the Health Justice Project - and the Office of Graduate Programs are met.
Marketing and External Relations: The Senior Director assists the Law School's marketing and communications office in planning the Institute's marketing efforts, including U.S. News-related outreach, Alumni outreach, program and event promotion, and related websites. Key partners include the Law School's Offices of Advancement, Communications, and the Dean. Additionally, the Senior Director represents the Institute at major local, regional, and national events to further develop partnerships across the Health Law community, expand professional networks, and promote the Institute.
Student Advising: The Senior Director develops, implements, and assesses advising and student success resources and programming for JD and
LLM Students interested in Health Law with the goals of generating student interest in Health Law and promoting academic success, persistence, and career exploration and placement. The Senior Director administers the JD Health Law Certificate and oversees student groups and initiatives including the Health Law externship program, Health Law Society, and Annals of Health Law and the Life Sciences. Additionally, the Senior Director partners with Law School Admissions to counsel prospective JD and
LLM Students interested in Health Law, manage Scholarship application, selection, and award processes for JD and
LLM Students, and oversee student Fellowship programs.
Professional and Continuing Legal Education: The Senior Director is responsible for partnering with Law School Leadership, and Faculty experts in current and emerging areas of Law to oversee and execute the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and events related to the professional development and continuing education for Law Students, Alumni, and members of the legal community. The Senior Director acts as Loyola's principal liaison with the Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board of the Supreme Court of Illinois (
MCLE Board) and the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and various other professional bar associations. As such, the Senior Director serves as in-house authority on
MCLE under Illinois Supreme Court Rules 790-798, managing all requirements of the Illinois
MCLE Board for certification of traditional programs and Attorneys' compliance needs and oversees
MCLE reporting. |
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience |
- Master's Degree level or JD Degree required.
- Previous experience in University administration or working with Students preferred. 5+ years of related experience with an excellent understanding of Law curriculum.

- Juris Doctor Degree.
- Previous experience in University Administration or working with Students preferred.
- Excellent written communication skills in a variety of media.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize work with minimal direction.
