Essential Job Duties
Join our dedicated team as an Equipment Services Operator CDL Driver/Operator and play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient campus environment. This position involves the skilled operation and maintenance of CDL-rated vehicles, heavy equipment, and other specialized machinery to complete scheduled tasks, address urgent requests, and respond to emergencies. Essential Responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:


  • Safely operate roll-off trucks to collect and transport bulk materials, including waste, recycling, and specialty materials, to designated facilities
  • Operate trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment to haul materials and deliver equipment for on-campus and off-campus needs
  • Utilize forklifts, loaders, and boom trucks to move and position equipment safely using proper rigging techniques
  • Address immediate, unplanned service needs and adverse weather or emergency situations as a designated mandatory responder
  • Serve on a rotating schedule for after-hours, weekend, and special event response, earning additional compensation for on-call availability
  • Operate and maintain a bulk material convenience site, providing customer service, ensuring safe waste sorting, and tracking material usage
  • Operate specialized equipment to collect and transport office cleanout recycling materials for processing

  • Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections on vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and functionality, addressing discrepancies proactively
  • Conduct basic maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicles, coordinating repairs with supervisors and the Auto Shop team

  • Inspect roll-off containers regularly, ensuring their safety for use and reporting repair needs promptly

Other Responsibilities

  • Position serves in a mandatory role and is essential to the operations of the university. Position is required to work during adverse weather conditions or campus emergencies. Snow removal operations as directed by supervisors
  • Position serves on On-Call Team and required to rotate through the on-call schedule every few weeks to provide after-hours support to campus if needed. An On-Call hourly fee is earned

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Requires appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
  • Position serves in a mandatory role and employee must work during adverse weather conditions and may be required to work even if the University is closed under normal operations
  • Experience in operation and basic maintenance of trucks and equipment necessary to complete work assignments
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds and up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without a reasonable accommodation
