The Role:

This role focuses on engineering design, project execution, asset lifecycle management, drawing management, construction standards, and ensuring overall system reliability at critical energy facilities and pipeline systems. The position requires working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and other Engineering Departments. The successful candidate will work with cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to optimizing NW Natural's electrical safety, infrastructure, equipment, and devices.

This role may also lead or assist in multi discipline project engineering projects covering multiple disciplines such as mechanical, civil, instrumentation, and controls.

Day to Day:

  • Design, analyze, and implement electrical power distribution systems and associated components for new and existing facilities.
  • Execute system checks and coordination for major electrical equipment for potential hazards, incident energy levels, end of life equipment, and latest code compliance requirements.
  • Work as a project engineer on installation of new facilities and equipment. Direct outside contractors and supervise during construction.
  • Perform load calculations, fault analysis, and system modeling for power distribution, reliability improvements, and new equipment.
  • Generate and maintain as-built drawings, single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and related documentation for facility records.
  • Develop engineering studies, specifications, schematics, and detailed system documentation for electrical systems, including all end devices.
  • Manage and execute lifecycle management plans, budgets, and forecasts for all electrical system including field devices.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, and other relevant standards and codes.
  • Review and update procedures with the safety department to align with NFPA 70E.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to field staff and technicians power systems and electrical devices.
  • Communicate with and support various stakeholders such as Gas Storage Operations, Operational Technology, Engineering Station Design, Engineering Gas Supply Engineering.
  • Collaborate with other Gas Storage engineering team members with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, process, civil, controls) to support overall project execution.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of electrical systems as needed.
  • Assist the Operational Technology team with design review, system integration, testing, and commissioning.
  • Support Maintenance team with spare part recommendations and lists.
  • Respond to emergency system outages or scheduled maintenance activities, including off-hours work when necessary.
  • Position requires field site visits throughout the NW Natural operational region to lead on-site engineering, design, and commissioning.
  • Position requires the ability and willingness to be available for on-call response, and off-hours site commissioning or upgrade activities.
  • Supports Company's commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
  • Participate and support NW Naturals engineering departments' specs and standards development and review.

Come on your first day with:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university, P. E. license preferred for Level 3, required for Level 4.
  • Minimum of 7 years working experience in similar position required for Level 3. 10 years of experience for Level 4.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand wiring schematic diagrams, single line diagrams, P&ID prints, construction documents, and control systems loop diagrams.
  • Must have working knowledge of a wide variety of electrical equipment related to power distribution.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead and manage priorities while working with various types of people.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with good communications and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated strong oral, written, and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex technological concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Proven ability to organize/prioritize workload effectively and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative and be assertive in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn very quickly and adapt to any situation that might arise.
  • Proven ability to function in a highly cohesive team environment to achieve department goals and to act independently to accomplish responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with employees at all organizational levels, including the ability to work in partnership with departmental and process managers in a union environment.
  • Skill in training key business partners on pipeline instrumentation and control system architecture.
  • Requires travel within NWN service territory and frequent field work.
  • Requires evening and weekend work hours to accommodate resolution of system outages and scheduled maintenance.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Must obtain a valid Oregon/Washington driver's license within 90 days if current valid license is from another state.

Base salary range: $107,500.00-$153,200.00(Level 3) or $120,450.00 - $171,650.00 (Level 4) per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Level 3,12.0% target

Level 4, 12.0% target

Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% - 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
