Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated professional to join our Knolls Facilities & Infrastructure team. As an Electrician, some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited, to:



  • Repair, install, replace, troubleshoot, and test complicated AC and DC electrical circuits and equipment, from wiring diagrams and written and verbal instructions, etc.
  • Participate in the design, layout and procurement of electrical equipment, circuits, components and supplies as required to support system installations, repair, troubleshooting and upgrade
  • Inspect and test electrical equipment, breakers, controllers and complicated electrical equipment using test instrumentation
  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance replacing faulty components and other elements of electrical systems including high yards and high voltage systems
  • Dismantle electrical machinery and replaces defective electrical or electromechanical parts
  • Inspect completed work for conformance with requirements of building and safety codes

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ten (10) years of full time experience in a wide variety of electrical tasks; OR
  • Journeyman Electrician

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with a wide variety of electrical tasks
  • Experience with fabrication, assembly and testing of electrical systems
  • Experience with and knowledgeable of LOTO
  • Experience in the use of aerial/platform Lifts and Bucket Trucks
  • Experienced in High Voltage Electrical Work
  • Knowledgeable of New York State Building Codes
  • Knowledgeable of National Electrical Codes

Pay Range

$37.90 hourly

Jobs categorized as subject to a collective bargaining agreement will adhere to the pay rates, wage increases, progression schedules, and other parameters identified and negotiated in said agreements. Wages and other compensation details are subject to change based negotiated changes to the collective bargaining agreements.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. FMP is a government contractor and maintains a drug free workplace and workforce. All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707.
