Requisition ID# 163539 Job Category: Engineering / Science; Maintenance / Construction / Operations Job Level: Manager/Principal Business Unit: Electric Engineering Work Type: Hybrid Job Location: Oakland Position Summary: The T&S Interconnection Engineering and Design Manager is responsible for the strategy development, planning, compliance, and quality assurance for the Transmission Line and Substation Engineering and Design. The incumbent oversees the group that Studies, Designs and Engineer the projects needed for interconnection customers. The incumbent manages a group of engineers that perform studies for customers as well as execution of projects that include scoping and design of these projects. The incumbent is involved in all stages of the Projects to procure long lead time material and various review of designs. Individual is responsible for work portfolio, scheduling and balance the workload. PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $132,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $179,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $226,000.00
Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains the department portfolio strategy to produce quality Transmission and Substation Design and Engineering.
- Reviews the transmission and substation Designs developed by staff to ensure it meets or exceeds PG&E design standards
- Performs studies for customer interconnection requests and is the engineering point of contact in discussion with customers.
- Develop strategies to improve efficiencies and quality by leading change initiatives and training.
- Lead Team of Design Engineers, Project Engineers and Program Managers.
- Facilitates the creation of a design and development environment that adheres to company standards
- Acts as a subject matter expert on design and engineering-related issues for leadership.
- May be appointed to lead cross-functional initiatives with stakeholders in multiple Lines of Business in areas related to cost reduction, root cause investigation, unit cost, or other factors determined by leadership.
- Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition.
- Establish comprehensive service level agreements
- Lead a competent, motivated, and qualified staff of employees, which includes performance management, developing, coaching and resolution of operational issues
- Provides performance feedback and guidance to staff
- Manages and accountable for the successful implementation of complex and highly visible, high impact new/enhanced systems on time, in scope and within budget
- Manage employees, contractors and vendors for the efficient delivery of services

- Provide leadership and motivation to team members
- Develop rapport with construction supervisors and superintendents to receive feedback on quality design and estimate accuracy.
- Ensure appropriate resources are assigned to each project/program.

Qualifications Minimum:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Engineering
- 8 years of relative working experience
- Utility industry experience
Desired:
- Engineering and operational knowledge to effectively develop and manage department functions, especially knowledge of transmission and distribution operations, substations, SCADA, and automation.
- Strategic, Visionary Thinking and Problem-Solving Ability.
- Knowledge of bargaining unit processes and their impact on organizational operations.
- Knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and California Independent System Operator (CAISO).
