What you'll be doing...
At Verizon, we are on a multi-year journey to industrialize our data practices and AI capabilities. Very simply, this means that AI and data will fuel all decisions and business processes across the company. At hundred and thirty billion dollars in annual revenue, this is a pioneering opportunity to build the data products and talent at a top global telco organization. With our leadership in bringing 5G networks nationwide, the opportunity for AI and Data will only grow exponentially in going from enabling new revenue opportunities and exquisite customer experience through real-time data insights. Therefore, it will be critical that this candidate possess previous experience with leading large engineering teams and AI efforts, attracting and retaining top talent, and building a team and culture that promotes curiosity and collaborations with a strong commitment to creating value for Verizon's customers, employees, stakeholders and the society. As Sr Manager of Data Engineering you will be responsible for leading and managing the data engineering team for Data Ingestion from diverse sources and alarming velocities and huge volumes of data. The ideal candidate will have strong understanding of data engineering principles and best practices, as well as experience interfacing with large scale data sets to support AI and GenAI solutions powering the journey of Autonomous Networks. You will develop and drive the execution of strategies to streamline the data acquisition i.e. collecting the data from transaction systems (NS, GNT and 3rd party vendors) and storing the data into data warehouses, data lakes and public/private cloud platforms. You will present to executives and use strategic thinking skills along with strong technical experience. You will report to the Director of data services and interfaces team.
Leading network data engineering from data sourcing, ingestion, and exposing the data for AI/ML model development, curation and data productization. Working closely with the other AI&D data engineering and Industrialization teams to bring synergies and best practices. Serving as a single point of coordination with data consumers in businesses and functions on what existing internal and third party data might be useful for business needs. Monitoring the code and overall application to ensure seamless performance. Working with business product owners to understand business requirements and use cases Evaluating tools for use case fit, perform vendor/tool comparisons and present recommendations Designing and developing platform standards, common reference architecture and data governance policies. Contributing to the capability roadmaps for data platforms Advising peers and business partners on fit-for-use and technical complexities Partnering with other technical leaders for solution alignment with strategy and standards Resolving issues escalated from business and functional areas. Establishing and execute on the enterprise-wide communication and change management plan to promote effective data management/stewardship and shift mindsets through collaboration with the AI&D cross-functional teams Managing working relationships with product and project managers across projects within DG&A and Verizon with strong lines of communication.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training. Experience managing Dare Warehouses and Big Data Hadoop Platforms. Experience in effectively leading large cross-functional initiatives, including adoption of associated support processes, and managing stakeholders Knowledge of current technologies and technology landscape is required Technical, verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to present to internal and external audiences
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration. Experience leading global delivery teams Ten or more years in leading data engineering and project management teams with a proven successful track record. Strong leadership experience in a business or function role managing teams. Experience in enabling Data Curation, Data Products and AI/ML and LLM based model development Experience in data migrations to public/private cloud platforms. Strong ability to apply business mindset to data issues and initiatives. Ability to integrate cross-business strategies and manage enterprise-wide resources. Strong communication, executive presentation and influencing skills Knowledge of data governance practices, emerging trends and issues, business and technology. Knowledge of best practices for building Data Lake and analytical architectures on Hadoop, Teradata and public cloud infrastructure.
