Job Description

WGL - Incident & Emergency Management Specialist

Washington Gas has an immediate opening for anIncident & Emergency Management Specialist who will be responsible for coordinating the incident and emergency management process across the organization. This position requires the ability to be on-call 24/7 to respond to emergencies and assist the Incident Command Structure as needed.

You Will:

  • Lead the implementation of the incident and emergency management processes, procedures, and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
  • Act as a corporate liaison with external agencies (e.g., government, safety, and security agencies) and develop partnerships for emergency response exercises and actual incidents.
  • Monitor industry incidents and develop methodologies to incorporate lessons learned into company practices and standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement by conducting emergency management after-action reviews, supporting the identification, assignment, and execution of corrective actions, and sharing lessons from emergency response situations.
  • Build and maintain the emergency on-call roster and schedule.
  • Coordinate emergency exercises and drills.
  • Develop and implement emergency response training programs for staff.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential emergency scenarios.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal emergency management regulations.
  • Prepare and present reports on emergency management activities to senior management.
  • Promote EHS culture and ensure safety through site engagements and training focused on emergency response.
  • Enhance collaboration by improving communication and teamwork during emergency response.
  • Streamline emergency response processes, automate tasks, and maintain high operational standards to embed sustainability.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Safety, Public Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in emergency management, industrial operations, or a related field. However, candidates with 5 or more years of experience in a similar role may be considered in lieu of the specified educational qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency response procedures and best practices.
  • Experience leading large-scale drills, exercises, and responses.
  • ICS training (level of training obtained negotiable) preferred
  • Certification in emergency management (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)) preferred
  • Experience with Incident Command Systems (ICS) and Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) preferred

We offer a competitive salary range of $78,000.00 to $113,250.00 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
