Job Summary

Manages operations of a materials management unit, implementing systems, analyzing data and ensuring compliance. Manages staff using materials management techniques to maintain supplies.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $225,900 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Linen and Laundry services are responsible for providing safe, clean, adequate and timely supply linen to user units of hospital at right time, right price and right place Laundry and Linen services both inpatient and outpatient care areas across the entire UCSF Health Enterprise. The aim of the Laundry Department is to provide all the hospital departments served, adequate supply of clean linen conforming to highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene immediately and constantly available for routine and emergency use from a central place thus reducing the overall cost and contributing towards the efficient and effective supply of linen to all Hospital Departments.

Required Qualifications


  • Strong knowledge of all phases of a large medical laundry operation, including techniques, processes, machinery and technology, safety protocols, systems for infection control, and the handling and transporting of linens.
  • Strong knowledge of budgets, inventory control systems, supply management, and production and fulfillment schedules.
  • Strong managerial skills, including personnel management, staffing, training, budgeting, and program planning and implementation.
  • Ability to analyze production data, produce reports, and develop work plans and strategies to correct problems and to implement objectives and quality improvements.
  • Strong computer proficiency in a wide variety of applications used for administrative, technical, and record-keeping purposes. Solid skills and abilities in written and verbal communications, to resolve complex employee issues. Ability to convey information about laundry operations clearly to subordinate staff and across departments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to issues of workplace diversity.
  • Review and fully understand customer statistics, analyze data and be able formulate presentations and action plans
  • Understand, observe and adhere to all safety procedures and policies

Preferred Qualifications


  • Associate degree in business or related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training
