The purpose of this position is to perform journey level work in the inspection and project management of CIP and maintenance projects and other construction activities for sidewalks, structures, grading and drainage, to ensure compliance with industry, City and departmental standards and specifications. This is accomplished by coordinating with other agencies, departments, contractors, residents and the public; inspecting workmanship and materials used in a variety of Public Works projects; ensuring compliance with plans, specifications and departmental regulations; and ensuring that the worksite is maintained in accordance with approved plans. Other duties may include completing related tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities include:



  • Inspects construction site for public safety.
  • Oversees contract work
  • Coordinates construction projects.
  • Responds to residents' questions or complaints about projects.
  • Performs or oversees the testing of materials to ensure compliance with plans and mix designs
  • Approves traffic control plans.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:



  • A great attitude and strong work ethic
  • A strong desire to work with a high-performing team
  • 2-4 years experience in asphalt and concrete mix, application and inspection
  • Previous municipal or government experience
  • A strong commitment to public service
  • The ability to read and interpret constructions drawings

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:



  • 2-4 years experience. Considerable previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.


Experience:



  • High school plus additional course work (equivalent to up to 1 year at a Community College or equivalent resulting in accumulation of similar knowledge and abilities).


Physical Demands:



  • Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort. Forces exerted are equivalent to lifting between 25 and 50 pounds.


Licenses and Certifications:



  • Valid Arizona Class "D" Driver's License upon hire.
  • Traffic Control Supervisor and Flagger certification required within one year.
  • International Slurry Surfacing Association (ISSA) Pavement Maintenance or National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification within two years of hire.
