Entry-Level NDT/NDE Technician

S&ME is seeking an individual passionate about ensuring the structural integrity of steel to join our NDE/NDT team in Nashville, Tennessee, as an entry-level NDT/NDE Metals Technician and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.

What You Will Do:

As an entry-level NDT/NDE Metals Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and safety of various metal structures. Under close supervision, you will perform routine metals materials testing services, becoming proficient in the operation and calibration of test equipment and reporting requirements. This position involves engaging in fieldwork, which may include safely climbing steel structures such as buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks to heights exceeding 200 feet, using fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems.



  • Field Expeditions: Perform visual inspections of structural steel, including bolted and welded connections.
  • Testing Gear Maintenance: Maintain testing equipment in good working order and in calibration.
  • Training: Receive training in new technical skills, safety protocols, and other programs.


This position requires flexibility, with 50+ hour work weeks during peak periods, as well as off-shift and weekend work as needed. Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems, is a plus.

Who You Are:



  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Vocational training in non-destructive metals testing services, a plus
  • 0-2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience or an associate degree
  • You have additional certifications, a plus:

    • ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
    • Level II for UT certification
    • Level II for PT, MT certifications





Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Ability to climb heights over 200 feet
  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
