EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



  1. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and minimum five years related experience and/or training, or
  2. Equivalent combination of education and experience.


DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Plans, implements, and coordinates safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
  2. Identifies and appraises conditions which could produce accidents and financial losses and evaluates potential extent of injuries.
  3. Conducts or directs research studies to identify hazards and evaluate loss producing potential of given system, operation or process.
  4. Develops accident-prevention and loss control systems and programs.
  5. Coordinates safety activities of unit managers to ensure implementation of safety activities though organization.
  6. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares reports for information from personnel concerned in accident.
  7. Maintains liaison with outside organizations to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.
  8. Devises methods to evaluate safety program and conducts or directs evaluations.
  9. Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.
  10. May store and retrieve statistical data electronically.
  11. Strive to reduce accidents and injuries by keeping them to a minimum by providing better communication, training, and enforcement. To minimize fines from OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and FRA by continuously improving our compliance.
  12. Keep abreast of new laws pertaining to the industry. Keeping a working atmosphere with regulating agencies and continue to invite these agencies to our training sessions.
  13. Interpret laws, new and old, and use these laws in communication, training, and enforcement. Keep involved with governing agencies at ground level on new laws. To voice opinion and concern about new regulations.
  14. Notify and train all employees using approved safety policies by administering and enforcing safety policies.
  15. Manages the Risk Management program by handling all Work Compensation, General Liability and Auto Lability claims.
  16. Analyze all loss runs for accidents, injuries, fines, and employee/agency satisfaction.
  17. After analyzing all loss runs for accidents, injuries, fines and employee/agency satisfaction, correct any problem areas.
  18. Compare benchmarks; monitor inspections, OSHA inspections, MSHA inspections, public safety complaints, and insurance.
  19. Analyze and measure reduction of accident, injuries, fines and employee/agency satisfaction. All must reduce with exception to future purchases and proper staffing. Meet KRC safety goals.
  20. Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.
  21. Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
  22. Ensure MSHA, OSHA, DOT, FRA safety regulation compliance.
  23. Establish and Maintain Interpersonal Relationships- Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with other departments, including HR and Management and maintaining them over time.
  24. Leads, mentors, and coaches safety professionals at the local level. Responsibility including: team effectiveness, optimal deployment, skills development, and project completion.
  25. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record under Company policy.
  26. Performs other duties as assigned.
