SAFETY MANAGER

The Safety Manager plays a critical role in upholding McGough's Environmental, Health & Safety, and risk control policies across our jobsites. This position requires leadership, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization. This position reports into our Texas Civil Operations office with dotted line responsibilities with our Safety team.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership & Compliance



  • Champion McGough's safety culture by leading and enforcing safety policies across multiple construction projects.
  • Take initiative as a self-starter and team player, driving improvements in safety programs and processes through collaboration and proactive actions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, industry best practices, and all relevant regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Identify and control hazardous conditions through job-specific safety standards, training, and corrective actions to prevent injury or property damage.


Collaboration & Engagement



  • Partner closely with Project Executives, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to drive a proactive safety culture.
  • Mentor and coach onsite crews to instill safety best practices and risk awareness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, design partners, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure safety compliance and alignment.
  • Work collaboratively with the Safety Team to drive key initiatives, actively participate in program development, and contribute to continuous improvements that enhance McGough's safety culture.


Qualifications:

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 7 years of dedicated construction safety experience
  • OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 certifications
  • Current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certification (within the last 2 years)
  • Strong knowledge of safety and environmental principles, regulations, and techniques
  • Ability to identify potential hazards and lead corrective action implementation
  • Professional leadership, management, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • BCSP designation - CHST, GSP, ASP, CSP


Preferred:



  • Bilingual in Spanish and English


Office and Travel:

Office: Work is conducted on various jobsites and/or at McGough's Field Operations office in Dallas with a dotted line responsibility to our Vice President of Safety.

Travel: 100% overnight travel possible.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

McGough Safety Team Contributions:



  • Align all safety responsibilities with McGough's culture, corporate vision, ethics, and code of conduct.
  • Collaborate with Safety Team members, project staff, and subcontractor safety representatives to enhance the overall safety program.
  • Manage time effectively to provide strong safety leadership across assigned projects.
  • Continuously grow professional knowledge and skills to support team success.
  • Provide coverage for fellow Safety Team members as needed.


Safety Oversight:



  • Enforce safety programs and implement corrective actions in accordance with McGough policies, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Work with project teams to ensure full compliance with safety, accident prevention, and fire protection policies.
  • Stop unsafe practices, provide immediate coaching, and recommend disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Conduct pre-construction safety planning meetings to align project teams and subcontractors on safety expectations and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical and administrative guidance to onsite safety personnel.
  • Participate in OSHA inspections and manage follow-up actions.
  • Lead accident and incident investigations.
  • Conduct safety research and implement best practices.


Jobsite Safety & Training:



  • Perform weekly jobsite safety walkthroughs with Superintendents and Foremen to proactively identify hazards and train workers on safe behaviors.
  • Lead bi-weekly site-wide safety meetings focused on relevant and timely jobsite activities.
  • Deliver training sessions using company-provided safety programs to enhance hazard awareness.
  • Investigate all incidents and accidents thoroughly, ensuring proper corrective actions are taken.


Tracking & Administration:



  • Assess training needs and provide recommendations to the Safety Team, project leadership, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct jobsite safety inspections and prepare reports (PowerPoint/Excel) for submission to the Safety Director.
  • Stay informed on emerging safety technologies and demonstrate the ability to integrate new tools and systems to enhance safety programs and processes
  • Review all safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze safety data to track trends and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain jobsite-specific safety records and administrative files.

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time while working at a computer terminal. Employee must be able to communicate effectively in a typical office environment with a standard level of office noise. Occasional standing, bending, walking and lifting is also required.

Employee will be required to visit construction jobsites, which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures. In addition, employee must be able to move around prospective or current project sites. This includes climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, walking long distances, and climbing stairs.
