Job Summary:

NRG is seeking a Financial Analyst to help support the Legal Department. This candidate is expected to become the segment expert within the department, taking full ownership of the department's financial budgeting, forecasting, analysis and reporting duties while staying closely coordinated with the Director of Legal Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the annual budgeting process while working with the General Counsel in preparation and presentation of the Outside Counsel Legal spend and the corporate functions in the Legal Department
  • Monthly review and variance analysis of the G&A expenses for the Legal Department functions (including personnel costs / tracking open position) and Outside Counsel spend across the entire company
  • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards using Power BI to visualize financial data and key performance metrics, ensuring seamless integration and accessibility via SharePoint
  • Assist in legal operations strategic initiatives by analyzing financial data, coordinating with vendors, evaluating contracts, and supporting process improvements to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Leverage AI-powered tools and analytics to enhance financial forecasting, data analysis and process automation, while staying informed on emerging AI technologies in finance
  • Monthly meetings with the General Counsel on the department's financial results and ensure he understands the drivers and opportunities for the department
  • Ensure the accurate and timely submission of quarterly accrual reports to Corporate Accounting
  • Prepare and enter quarterly forecast figures and annual budget data into the financial planning system
  • Prepare, analyze, and provide recommendations on the monthly synergy report to ensure alignment with expected outcomes
  • Serve as the legal financial reporting liaison between the legal department and corporate functions (e.g. Accounting, FP&A)
  • Develop expertise in the outside counsel e-billing system to generate spend reports and evaluate law firm rates in accordance with our guidelines.
  • Assign the appropriate accounting codes for new outside counsel matters and Legal Department G&A expenses.
  • Prepare, analyze, and provide recommendations on ad hoc reports requested by the General Counsel and other company leaders.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or economics from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three years of finance experience in operations or FP&A within the energy industry or in a shared services model.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-5 years of finance experience in operations or FP&A within the energy industry or in a shared services model
  • Proficient in Power BI / AI tools and advanced knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with financial software and ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle - Smart View FPR, Legal Tracker) is a plus

  • Maintain detailed and organized notes on financial reports, analysis findings, and issues discussed, ensuring accurate documentation for reference and decision-making
  • Maintain an organized workflow by efficiently managing financial data, reports, emails and tasks.
  • Analyze financial data with a strategic mindset, connecting trends, metrics, and business objectives to provide meaningful insights and drive informed decision-making.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement, demonstrating a forward-thinking and self-starting approach while following directions and taking initiative.
  • Effectively manage multiple assignments, adapting to shifting priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment without compromising accuracy.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, collaborating with outside stakeholders and senior management while contributing to a team-oriented environment and taking a leadership role when needed.
  • Present budget and forecast analyses clearly and concisely, supporting annual budget presentations to the CEO and senior leadership.
  • Quickly assimilate complex data, conceptualize key insights, and take appropriate action to drive financial and business decisions.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work schedule; a combination of working remotely from home and 3 days a week in the office
  • Open office environment
  • Some overtime required especially around quarter end and budget time
  • Limited travel (less than 10%)
