The Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) performs testing in the CLIA-certified laboratory under the direct and constant supervision of a licensed CLS, participates and assists in quality control, quality assurance and troubleshooting activities. A CLA performs duties and, carried out work assignments in accordance with policies and objectives established by the Clinical Laboratory Manager (CLM) or designee and works alongside the CLS and supervisory team as a leader among their CLA peers. A CLA lead is expected to assist in planning and organizing the workload for the CLA team, determining work methods and assisting in the determination of priorities and deadlines. Completed work is reviewed by the CLS, direct Supervisor, or CLM to verify the achievement of expected results.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient specimen processing under the direct and constant supervision of a licensed CLS.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance tasks and setting up consumables in preparation of laboratory testing.
  • Assist the CLS in laboratory testing.
  • Receive and accession samples into the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to facilitate sample throughput.
  • Perform instrument calibrations and maintenance.
  • Perform data entry and maintain spreadsheets
  • Participate in materials management activities which includes tasks such as ordering, receiving, unpacking, documentation and labeling of consumables and reagents, and stocking work areas.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Perform testing for special research and development studies.
  • Comply with CareDx quality control policies and document QC activities
  • Maintain confidentiality of personal health information (PHI).
  • Identify problems that may affect assigned duties, and following established protocols, correct problems or escalate to Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Manager, or lab Director.
  • Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Perform additional administrative duties and projects assigned by the Clinical Laboratory Manager.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing clinical laboratory operations
  • Partner with Supervisory team to help ensure efficient processing of lab work, assist with providing feedback on scheduling.
  • Provide troubleshooting support by working with the lab leadership team and cross functional teams to provide updated details and tracking within the incident reporting system.
  • Relay feedback in a timely manner to the lab supervisor and work to create solutions to immediate accessioning and CLA needs escalating to the lab management team as needed.
  • Assist in Scheduling of daily bench tasks and assignments for the CLA team related to sample intake and accessioning.

Qualifications:

  • AA degree required; BS/BA in a biology-related science is preferred
  • 1-3 years experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with CareDx employees at all levels as well as customers and vendors
  • Meet requirements for California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Trainee license
  • Aptitude for performance of molecular testing techniques (PCR, real-time PCR, etc.)
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, within the work group
  • Accountability and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the lab leadership team including supervisors, manager, and director levels.
