Essential Job Duties |
Join our team as an
HVAC Technician, where you'll play a critical role in
maintaining, repairing, and optimizing HVAC/R systems in a dynamic commercial, industrial, or large university setting. This position requires a highly skilled tradesperson proficient in
HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing, and pipefitting, ensuring the efficient operation of complex mechanical systems. You'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems,
contribute to preventive maintenance programs, and occasionally serve as a team leader, technical trainer, or supervisor. If you thrive in a hands-on environment and enjoy problem-solving in a fast-paced setting, this is the role for you!
Key responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
Conduct scheduled inspections, tune-ups, and servicing of HVAC/R systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues, providing prompt repairs to minimize downtime
- Replace and install HVAC/R units, controls, compressors, VAV boxes, VFDs, and other system components
- Monitor and adjust system performance, ensuring compliance with safety and energy efficiency standards
- Service and repair chilled water, steam, and hot water generation/distribution systems, including pumps, valves, and actuators.
Maintain and repair electrical components, pneumatic/electronic controls, and power distribution systems up to 600V- Repair and maintain potable and non-potable water systems, sanitary waste, specialty plumbing, and piping systems
- Service exhaust fans, air compressors, and other ventilation equipment to ensure proper airflow and air quality
- Follow industry codes, regulations, and best practices for HVAC/R, electrical, and plumbing work
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance using CMMS or similar platforms
- Work alongside team members, providing mentorship, training, and guidance as needed

Other Responsibilities |
- Participate in a quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time, every ten to fourteen weeks
- Be available to work alternate shifts as needed for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances
- As essential personnel for the University, report to work during adverse weather conditions, even if the University is on an alternate schedule. Assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Knowledge of local, state, and national codes pertaining to the assigned trades
- Multi-trade experience with a concentration in HVAC, electrical, steam, plumbing, and controls
- Ability to safely work on extension ladders and high lifts and capability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in using handheld electronic devices in the field
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of building automation systems and controls.
- Universal CFC certificate, HVAC license, or special trade(s) licenses or certifications preferred.
