Job Summary:



The Couts lab provides an opportunity to participate in basic, translational, and preclinical work on melanoma, gaining experience in several different areas of cancer research. Ongoing projects include characterization of genomic and epigenetic features of rare melanomas, exploring the tumor microenvironment, microbiome, and metabolomics, and trials of targeted therapies and immunotherapy using novel in vivo models. Lab members are supported in attending national and international conferences to present their work. This role is an excellent opportunity for motivated candidates looking to participate in impactful work that will translate to clinical outcomes, as previous work has directly led to clinical trials in rare melanoma subtypes here at CU.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigator (PI) with laboratory and research functions.
  • Performing basic molecular biology lab techniques including but not limited to PCR, qPCR, western blotting, and nucleic acid extraction.
  • Maintaining cell cultures and performing cell culture experiments such as viability assays, invasion assays, and transfections.
  • Animal work, including maintaining and treating melanoma patient-derived xenograft tumor mouse models, syngeneic melanoma mouse models, and humanized mouse models.
  • General lab inventory, supply ordering, organization, and equipment maintenance.
  • Expected to attend and present relevant research data at weekly lab and journal club meetings.



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.


Intermediate Level:



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • One (1) year professional level research experience.


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
  • Prior experience with mouse models, preferably of cancer.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Willingness to work with murine tumor models.
  • Strong Molecular Biology background.
  • Ability to be both team-oriented and work independently learning new research lab techniques.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $45,000 - $57,240

Intermediate Level: $48,970 - $62,290

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
