Job Summary

Are you passionate about the outdoors? Do you love helping kids explore, learn, and grow in nature? We want you to join our Periwinkle Outdoor Explorers team! A Nature-Driven, School Year, Preschool Program for 3.5-5 Year Olds.

As a Substitute Outdoor Preschool Instructor, you'll lead exciting, hands-on adventures in the great outdoors, helping young explorers discover the wonders of weather, flora, fauna, bugs, and more!

We're Looking for Someone Who Is:
Experienced - You've worked with children and have a knack for mentoring and caring for little ones.
Reliable & Organized - You can take charge of a day of adventure, while keeping things on track.
Enthusiastic & Passionate - Your love for nature shines through, and you're excited to inspire little minds through creative activities with natural materials.

Essential Duties

  • Lead children in nature-based games and activities.
  • Provide a safe, stimulating environment with age-appropriate activities.
  • Set up and tear down program equipment and supplies.
  • Interact professionally with participants, parents, and co-workers.
  • Follow/adhere to all city policies and procedures, and safety program regulations and requirements.
  • Represent the City in a positive and professional manner.
  • Take initiative and possess strong work ethic.
  • Perform essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain reliable, and punctual attendance.

Peripheral Duties

  • Create innovative art, science and games.
  • Maintain outdoor classroom equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicant must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to the position start date.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years or older by the start date.
  • Must successfully pass all phases of the pre-employment hiring process, including but not limited to reference checks and a national criminal background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience leading, mentoring, and caring for children.
  • Reliable and organized.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for the outdoors and nature.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

  • Performs work in an outdoor park setting with shelters and playgrounds.
  • Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible.
