As a Nature Camp Instructor, you'll teach kids all about our native animals, plants, woodlands, and bodies of water. From nature-inspired art and fun games to science projects, hands-on learning, and outdoor explorations, every day will be a new adventure!

Job Summary

Note: Applications are being accepted for this Summer 2025 seasonal position.

Summary:
Supervise and lead children ages 5-10 in a variety of summer nature camp activities.

Essential Duties

  • Lead activities for two age groups (4 weeks each) in an outdoor park setting.
  • Enforce rules to maintain a safe, stimulating camp environment and promote appropriate behavior.
  • Set up and tear down program equipment and supplies.
  • Work with youth between ages 5-10 in a positive manner.
  • Interact professionally with participants, parents, the general public, and co-workers.
  • Responsible for inventory and tracking of equipment and supplies.
  • Follow/adhere to all city policies and procedures, and safety program regulations and requirements.
  • Work effectively as a team.
  • Represent the City in a positive and professional manner; use good judgment and be a good role model for youth.
  • Take initiative and possess strong work ethic.
  • Perform essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

Peripheral Duties

  • Plan nature-inspired weekly activities.
  • Coordinate ordering of supplies.
  • Maintain camp budget.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of games, crafts, and nature-inspired activities.
  • Ability to administer First Aid/CPR if needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicant must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to the position start date.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years or older by the start date.
  • Must successfully pass all phases of the pre-employment hiring process, including but not limited to reference checks and a national criminal background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience leading, mentoring, and caring for children (preferably in a camp setting).
  • Reliable and organized.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for the outdoors and nature.

Other

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

  • Performs work in an outdoor park setting with shelters and playgrounds.
  • Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible.
