About the Job

This temporary position will support the preparation and delivery for the National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI). NSTI is a 2-week summer camp for student's grades 7-9 and takes place July 14-25, 2025. The camp chaperone will provide on-site assistance for 30 middle school students during the full two-weeks of camp, as well as provide preparation assistance as needed.

90% On-Site Chaperone (~100 hours):

* Interact with NSTI participants during activities to build relationships and connections to CTS
* Help CTS Staff ensure the safety of all NSTI participants as a full time chaperone and mentor
* Represent CTS at all off-site NSTI sessions
* Supervise youth of varying ages during programs and tours
* Provide technical assistance during activities

10% NSTI Preparation (~10 hours):

* Work with CTS Staff to plan daily activities which aren't part of a session
* Support NSTI Session hosts in ensuring programming is age-appropriate and engaging
* Attend NSTI Orientation

Start date July 1, 2025
End date July 31, 2025

Compensation at $55.00/hour

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
* Five years experience working with youth preferably in a leadership or education setting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Prior knowledge of transportation and/or engineering topics
* Creativity & Flexibility
* Leadership Skills

About the Department

The Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) conducts transportation research, education, and outreach programs in a broad number of areas, including transportation policy and planning, infrastructure engineering, intelligent transportation systems and safety. These activities are carried out through relationships with University faculty, government agencies, and private industry, including an extensive advisory committee structure. An annual operating budget is provided by the state legislature to support a base level of research, education, and outreach services. This operating support is supplemented by other grants that CTS attracts.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $55.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
