JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Information Technology Services Office, located in the Enterprise Operations Office of The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a Systems Engineer for our Enterprise and high security environments. This role will provide advanced systems engineering and administration, computing support, and specialized support services for the enablement of key research and administrative functions by ensuring the security, compliance, functionality, and reliability of systems through hands on configuration and support. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intelligence Community (IC).

You will:

  • Perform system and security engineering including coordinating, designing, recommending, evaluating, and managing new and existing security services, controls, solutions, processes, and procedures

  • Respond and remediate system security vulnerabilities

  • Manage cyber security tools on multiple environments

  • Implement, test, and support new and emerging technologies while applying security best practices, and required compliance measures

  • Present system and network security principles and technology solutions to diverse audiences

  • Conduct risk assessments to determine residual level of risk and any required mitigations

  • The installation and configuration of systems to comply with Government regulations

  • Generate and maintain system, security, and process documentation

  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cyber Security and other leadership peers regarding enterprise and system-wide computer architecture, capacity planning, security and usage

Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree or higher, plus 3 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required skills and experience areas include:

  • Systems integration in a heterogeneous network environment

  • Demonstrated experience in the enterprise level administration of both Windows and Linux

  • Strong understanding of cyber security, system administration, and networking fundamentals within a heterogeneous network environment

  • Operating and providing systems administration and support in a research computing environment

Preferred skills and experience areas include:

  • A current, fully adjudicated TOP SECRET (Tier 5) clearance

  • Knowledge in NIST/ISO standards, DoD directives, and regulatory requirements (800-171/53, etc.)

  • The ability to certify and maintain information security related certification
    (Security+, CASP+, CySA+)

  • Security systems administration (Splunk, Nessus, XDR, Defender)

Your working location will be on-site, located in State College, PA, with some opportunities for hybrid work.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $129,500.00
