Overview
This is a PRN position with no regular hours and you will be asked to work to help cover vacation and illness, Fill orders with accuracy; check technician prepared products before release; maintain security of pharmacy and controlled substances; enter orders and patient information with accuracy; aid in the training of new staff; update the Manager about the daily activities of the pharmacy; aid the Manager in maintaining the pharmacy. Qualifications Certifications: Licensed Pharmacist - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), Education: Bachelor's Degree (Required), Work Experience: Responsibilities Enters all patient demographic information, correct charge descriptions, correct medication including description, strength, route, expiration date and start/stop dates.Posts debits/credits accurately.Enters metric dosage. Maintains order entry error rate <2% and serious order entry error rate <0.5%.Generates required reports.Alerts Director of any problems with system software or hardware.Prepares and dispenses prescriptions to patients (or directly supervises qualified pharmacy technician). Verifies prescriptions and computer orders prepared by technicians before they are dispensed to the patient. Corrects all orders which are entered in error or may be misunderstood.Prioritizes work to prepare stat, now and waiting in order of importance. Follows through on incomplete prescription orders to insure medication has been ordered for the next day. Fills discharge prescriptions and requisitions from nursing floors in a timely fashion.Checks for automated dispensing equipment computer entry errors and corrects. Checks cells/cassettes/canisters/robot for accuracy, if filled by a technician.Maintains records as required by law to document drug transactions within the Pharmacy and throughout the hospital if appropriate. Controlled drug sign-out sheets are initiated correctly and terminated correctly when new supplies issued. Investigational drug logs and perpetual inventories are accurate and current. Repackage logs are accurate and current.Completes and signed End-of-Day logs for all prescriptions processed on a daily and/or monthly basis as required by Pharmacy policy. Makes sure daily logs for the refrigerator temperature are completed. Completes notification reports regarding medication errors or other incidents.Maintains Education Log.Orders medications when stock is low. Keeps Director informed of abnormal use of items. Loans and borrows medications per policy.Safely uses departmental equipment and disposes of waste in the proper containers. Is able to locate the MSDS Sheets, disaster manual safety manual, infection control, P&P, etc.Performs unit inspections monthly, if necessary. Performs outdate checks on a monthly basis.Assists in training of new staff. Supervises all technician activity within the pharmacy.Maintains cash register and money under observation and cashes out daily and completes reports or assigns and supervises technicians as need.Maintains security of pharmacy and controlled substances.Reviews patient profile to ensure appropriate and safe drug therapy to ensure no therapeutic duplication, prevention of significant drug interactions and avoidable drug allergy interactions and medication ordered is appropriate for patient height, weight, age, renal function and disease state. Clarifies controversial orders with physician before filling.Serves as a resource for drug information, including indications, doses, routes, side effects, adverse reactions, drug interactions, pharmacokinetics and product availability. Able to utilize appropriate reference materials when necessary.Participates in drug inventory control through formulary management, performing therapeutic interchanges per policy.Keeps current on new drugs. Answers questions timely and accurately. Provides continuing education lecture, written report, public ed lecture, or Hospital Reports to management sponsored event at least once annually. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $53.23per hour - $91.56per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
