Position Overview:
As the Director of First Year Experience (Seminar), you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our new, first-year, and transfer students. You'll be an essential University College leadership team member, developing, managing, and assessing our FYE courses. Your efforts will directly contribute to the retention and success of our students, helping them build a strong foundation for their academic journey.

What You'll Do: Curricular Development:
Lead the recruitment, selection, training, and development of FYE instructors, ensuring they are equipped to deliver impactful courses. You'll also be responsible for updating FYE course syllabi and learning materials regularly.

Data-Driven Decision-Making: Collect and analyze data to guide course development, enhance retention efforts, and ensure FYE classes run smoothly.

Leadership & Collaboration:
Work closely with the Associate Dean on retention and success initiatives and represent FYE on university committees.

What We're Looking For:

  • Education & Experience:
  • A Master's degree from an accredited institution is required, along with at least two years of teaching experience, preferably teaching FYE courses.
  • Experience with educational technologies such as Banner and Canvas.

  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize multiple projects, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Word, Excel, E-mail, PowerPoint, and various Social media platforms.

  • Communication: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills are a must, as you'll be presenting to diverse audiences and working with various campus stakeholders.

  • Flexibility: Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a team.
  • A willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support student success initiatives.

  • Master's degree from a four-year university or college
  • Ability to develop and implement presentations and workshops to diverse audiences
  • Conduct monthly meetings with FYE instructors and student ambassadors/workers
  • Schedule FYE courses, sections, and faculty
  • Help develop and maintain FYE website
  • Collect, disaggregate, and assess data pertaining to FYE
  • Creation/Modification of Canvas modules for FYE 1250/1251
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a team
  • Basic knowledge of technologies, including word processing, excel, e-mail, PowerPoint and social media
  • Be available and willing to work irregular office hours during certain times of the year to attend and/or monitor activities, events, and/or development of the first year student population
  • Oversight for the recruitment, selection, training, development, supervision, and evaluation of the FYE instructors and student ambassadors/workers for the first-year program, FYE 1250/1251
  • Assist with campus partner integration, enrollment and registration, program evaluation and assessment, FYE instructor professional development and evaluation, curriculum development, etc. in support of First Year Experience I & II: FYE 1250/1251
  • Support FYE to work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across campus such as Enrollment Management, Career Services, CITI, Residence Life, Advising Services, and other entities to support various initiatives for first-year students, including, but not limited to, leading a sub-committee for RAMDITION
  • Provide strategic programming


Serve as the representative for FYE on assigned committees

    • Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of 2nd Year, Adult, and Transfer Year Experiences to ensure that there is curriculum and strategic cohesiveness in the transition from first to 2nd year and proper support of non-traditional populations.
    • Provide support to the Associate Dean in all matters related to the First Year Experience and other office functions
    • Provide support to the Director of Academic Advising and Retention for first-year student retention and student success initiatives, as it pertains to the programs above
    • Work in coordination with AEP personnel to develop and implement retention initiatives that are specifically identified for the first year student population
    • Collaborate with Student Engagement, faculty, and academic advisors and other constituents who provide services and support to first year students
    • Other duties as assigned to ensure the fulfillment of First Year Experience

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Education: Bachelor's degree required Masters preferred and a minimum of two (2) years working directly with undergraduate students Experience: Equivalent education and experience may be considered Ability to work in a team environment Student-centered Excellent interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
