The Instrument Specialistreports to the Maintenance Manager
Job dimensions (scope, responsibility)
This job performs a wide variety of electrical work; must be highly skilled interpreting electrical diagrams/schematics and troubleshooting control loops. Skilled in use of diagnostic equipment, proper switching and isolation of equipment, and knowledgeable in virtually all electrical applications and intricacies specific to the Middleton site. This job is on 2ndshift which is 3:15PM to 11:30 PM
Activities (tasks, resource, outcome)
Follow All Plant Safety Procedures and Policies (LOTO, Work Permitting, Arc Flash etc.)
Use of Proper PPE for both the task being performed and the area you are working in
Document all work completed using electronic calibration and work order tracking systems
Test all equipment worked on for proper operation prior to turnover to production
Provide feedback to supervision pertaining to any abnormal equipment observations
Work at elevated heights (platforms, scaffolding, scissor lift, boom lift, ladders)
Read and understand equipment drawings, manuals, and documentation
Electrical duties include troubleshooting, preventive maintenance of motors & other electrical control systems
Use a variety of test and diagnostic meters as well as electronic instrument calibration devices
Calibration of instrumentation including temperature, pressure, flow, load cells and related controls
Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance, calibration and service
Knowledge of the NEC & NFPA70E a plus, but not required
Can read and interpret One-line drawings, electrical/electronic schematics, ladder logic, and related drawings/diagrams
Diagnose problems, replace, repair, test and make adjustments to electrical equipment or instrumentation
Update maintenance records and equipment history
Basic mechanical troubleshooting and repairs
Executes all tasks necessary as assigned to support plant operations, such tasks may be of an unskilled or skilled nature

Fast paced, safety-focused environment where you are involved in a wide variety of functions and activities.
Participate in activities within the plant and occasionally outside the plant
Travel not normally required
Heavy use of computer software, both PC based and enterprise system, combined with frequent interpersonal communication
Expectation is that a good portion of time will be spent in the field, minimal shop time
Accountabilities (purpose)
Responsible for performing highly diversified electrical and instrumentation duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety policies and predictive/preventive maintenance processes to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives.
Qualifications / experience required
Knowledge of Thermocouples, RTD's, Load Cell's, Pressure Transducer's, Flowmeters and associated instrumentation
NFPA70E training and ability to work with 110v electrical and cabinets with an understanding of arc flash ratings
Optional - Knowledge of PLC control and basic programming. (Allen Bradley RS Logix)
Optional - AC and DC variable speed drive knowledge and understanding
