Position:Machine Operator III - Plywood Department Location: Hartselle, AL Wage: $22.71 Shift: First Summary: Sonoco is looking to hire a Machine Operator at our Plant in Waco, TX. This position will operate and maintain all equipment used for production of plywood. The Machine Operator will also be responsible for keeping up with required quality standards and meeting or exceeding productivity goals set by management. Responsibilities: * Maintain and operate all equipment used in production of plywood products * Observe machines to detect malfunctions and adjust as needed * Set-up and operate various types of cutters and other equipment to produce specialized sizes of sheet goods according to customer orders * Make necessary adjustments to ensure optimum performance of machinery and minimize downtime * Monitor and inspect work areas, equipment, and materials to ensure safe working conditions * Report defective equipment or unsafe practices/conditions to supervisor * Obtain supplies and parts as needed * Train new employees on equipment operation and safety procedures * Follow standard operating procedures (SOP's) and area specific work instructions (ASWI's) * Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area * Cross train and perform duties outside of normal scope when necessary Qualifications: * High School Diploma or equivalent experience preferred * Previous manufacturing experience preferred * Ability to read, write, and communicate in English * Basic math skills * Able to lift up to 50 pounds and move around warehouse * Available to work any shift assigned including overtime hours * Ability to troubleshoot basic issues with equipment * Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles * Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite) At Sonoco Products Company, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive pay and benefits.
