This position is located in the Library Events Office (LEO), Center for Learning, Literacy and Engagement, Office of the Librarian. The LEO sponsors and supports special events and public programs in LC historic meeting facilities. Assignments involve extensive interacting with clients and event participants, who are regularly members of Congress and their staff; donors and potential donors to the library collections; private industry executives; heads of major libraries foreign and domestic; officials from other branches of government; public figures and their guests; and, the Librarian and her guests.

Event size ranges from small, such as the Pickford Theater, which seats 64, to the Mumford, and Montpelier Rooms that seat several hundred, and up to 1,200 individuals in the Great Hall in the Thomas Jefferson Building. Events can and often run concurrently. They include official meetings, conferences, workshops, breakfasts, lunches, receptions, and dinners, in support of the Library, Congressional and public use. The purpose of this position is to assist in determining requirements for functions; ensuring proper room layouts; coordinating requirements with companies, caterers, individuals, and LC labor support staff; and orienting caterers in the kitchen facilities of LC. The EOA also is the primary greeter for visitors, issuing name badges, providing directions to meeting rooms and other facilities, and ensuring a first class experience while at the LC.
