PURPOSE

Provide detailed layouts for field installation of engineered wood products. The EWP designer independently coordinates the design and completion of layouts of EWP I-Joist floor systems for pricing and manufacturing, while performing simple and complex analysis to meet technical requirements and achieve customer goals and preferences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Develop designs for use of engineered wood products (I Joist, LVL) with MiTek Structure.
  • Uses independent judgment and discretion in selecting design materials to be used and produce materials list per customer needs and technical requirements for each job.
  • Independently performs simple and complex analyses while designing residential floor and roof systems and producing layouts.
  • Develop designs in accordance with applicable building codes including live loads, dead loads, and concentrated loads.
  • Performs structural alterations of buildings as needed or per customer requests and as technical requirements dictate.
  • Proactively discusses changes and corrections with engineers, architects and contractors prior to and during construction base.
  • Interacts daily with sales staff and customers while evaluating their needs and the technical requirements for each job. Reviews layouts with them and uses independent judgment to provide expert advice and recommendations.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Experience in CAD or whole house structural design software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret architectural and structural plans.
  • Must have working knowledge of blueprints and understand loads associated with structures.


  • Must possess practical knowledge of wood frame construction.
  • Must have strong math skills with ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
