What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Mechanical Measurements Trades On any given day, you may be called on to:
Plan, perform and analyze a variety of mechanical measurements in an engineering, research and development, and/or complex production environment. Position will be working in Mechanical Calibration, part of Primary Standards Laboratory. As a condition of employment, Metal Trades positions are represented by the Metal Trades Council (MTC) and represented employees must pay the monthly membership dues or agency fee.
Qualifications We Require:
A minimum of 5-8 years as a fully qualified Mechanical Measurements Tradesperson and or completion of a State approved mechanical measurements apprenticeship program. Documented work experience in the calibration / certification of M&TE and secondary reference standards. Experience in using and development of calibration procedures and uncertainty analysis Work involves utilizing all types of precision measurement equipment to measure piece parts, gauges, and prototype model assemblies to verify conformance of dimensional accuracy to specifications; to perform machine tool alignments and torque wrench calibrations; to provide length, mass, and force calibration in a standards lab; and to provide precision field measurement services when requested. Responsibilities include operating state-of-the-art measurement and calibration equipment that requires computer skills to create, edit, and execute programs on various coordinate measuring machines (CMM), optical and video measuring centers, and surface texture/profile analyzers; applying solid model CAD/CAM software to generate profile definitions; performing complex and difficult setups using open set-up techniques; sketching drawings. Prepare standard and special computer-generated measurements reports; utilizing computerized databases to maintain required records. Provide technical oversight for shop, sub-shop, and out-of-shop fabricate-to-print work. Serve as a consultant to technical personnel on interpretation of various measurement standards and design issues, and writing and developing cost estimates, reports, process travelers and work instructions/procedures. As assigned, act as lead person which includes, but is not limited to, responsibility for making schedule commitment(s), assignment of work to coworkers, instructing, consulting, or training others. Perform work using industry-standard safety practices.
Qualifications We Desire:
Documented training (e.g. apprenticeship or military training) in the field of metrology. Experience with coordinate measuring machines (CMM's) and or video systems is a plus. Minimum of 5-8 years as a fully qualified Mechanical Measurements Tradesperson or Completion of a State approved Mechanical Measurements Apprenticeship Program. Skill and knowledge in dimensional metrology, measurement uncertainty and calibration processes. An advanced understanding of metrology concepts and their application to lab and on-site calibrations An advanced understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) related to gauge and fixture design. MS Office (e.g. Excel, Word) Active Department of Energy "L" or "Q" clearance.
