What you'll be doing...

The Verizon Experience Design team is chartered to evolve the experiences of Verizon business customers and frontline agents by designing and implementing innovative products and services that support and drive our customers' business. With global offices and hybrid work environments, the team is assembling the brightest designers, design strategists, and product managers to collaborate within teams, shaping the future of the customer experience and pushing the boundaries of innovation.

At Verizon, Associate Design Directors lead and manage teams to deliver best-in-class design solutions grounded in user, product, technology, and business requirements through collaboration with partners. Departments across Verizon look to Associate Design Directors for direction and fresh perspectives. In addition to focusing on customer experiences, Associate Design Directors are responsible for career growth and performance management of direct reports while also increasing team morale and creating a positive work environment.

  • Thoroughly explore, refine and document design solutions.

  • Actively explore user context, and engage in target user activities when possible.

  • Participate in insight-gathering activities (informal or formal, primary or secondary) and create design solutions that leverage user insights.

  • Actively research competitive products, industry trends, and topics.

  • Stay updated on Verizon's business, strategy, and organizational structure.

  • Effectively design solutions within Verizon's business context and revenue model.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of UI standards for common platforms (iOS, Android, Web).

  • Work within Verizon's front-end and back-end technology constraints and capabilities.

  • Give and receive constructive feedback.

  • Actively identify, escalate, and help remove impediments keeping your team from being productive.

  • Identify the pros and cons of possible design approaches to assist with decision-making.

  • Help navigate sensitive tradeoffs with higher-level leadership.

  • Make partners stronger by teaching design-led processes and best practices.

  • Build relationships and facilitate meetings with Business Unit Owners and executive leadership.

  • Advocate for the team and recommend approaches that allow designers to do work aligned with development goals and interests.

  • Encourage design community participation through group events/activities.

  • Seek opportunities to contribute thought leadership to the broader design community.

  • Lead your team by providing performance feedback, reviews, coaching, and direction.

  • Make hiring decisions as openings are available.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Portfolio of professional work.

  • Experience leading a team.

  • Experience in design management.

  • Willingness to travel, occasional travel may be required.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design.

  • B2B experience.

  • Contributed to multiple design programs or shipped products with a large user base.

  • Contributed to overall product success.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $133,000.00 and $247,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
