General Purpose of Job: The Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) of Surgery insures that quality professional and non-professional services are provided to patients in the Surgical Department at the level the patient requires on a twenty-four (24) hour per day basis. The CNM is responsible for providing nursing leadership throughout the organization, maintaining a positive attitude, flexibility in job requirements and good communication skills with professional and non-professional staff, affiliates, patients and community. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Responsible for the management of the patient care area 24 hours per day, exemplifying the customer service standards. Prepare/assist/delegate responsibility for the area schedules, insuring appropriate needs for patient care are met 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
- Insure compliance with Hospital, State and Federal regulations in reference to patient care activities and physical environment.
- Communicate the hospital vision, mission and values within the department, motivating others to achieve strategic goals.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude in response to unexpected changes in work volume or staffing changes.
- Establish strategic goals within the patient care area.
- Plan and conduct unit staff meetings.
- Ensures appropriate orientation education and continued professional development of associates.
- Provide yearly input for capital budget.
- Evaluate and monitor utilization of equipment and supplies.
- Provide direct patient care, as necessary. (Competency List Attached)
- Promote Emergency Preparedness efforts.
- Develop, implement, evaluate and revise departmental policies and procedures.
- Monitors associate performance providing coaching, recognition, counseling and avenues for improvement.
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* Current Michigan license to practice as a Registered nurse. * Preferred - Advanced certification in nursing management. |
Work Experience |
* Minimum of three years nursing experience. * Minimum of one year leadership experience. |
Education |
* Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. * Preferred - Bachelors degree in Nursing. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to patient served in service area (newborn to geriatric). The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience. * Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans and interventions. * Planning, organizing, budgeting and evaluating skills. * Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians, affiliates and other health care agencies. |
