HDR is seeking a Senior Freight and Transit Planner to help lead our services in this sector, with focus on Kansas / Missouri and key roles on national and international pursuits and projects. The position includes development and management of a Freight and Transit Planning Section in HDR's Missouri and Kansas offices. The position will report to the MO/KS Mobility and Funding Group Leader in Kansas City, Missouri, and will be located in the Kansas City office.
This role includes the following responsibilities:
- Oversee and grow an area freight and transit planning section
- Take responsibility for development strategies, new business prospects, technical services, quality, and production methods and standards, all within established goals and objectives of the MO/KS Transportation Business Group, North Central Region, and national freight / transit market sectors
- Actively participate in broader leadership, both with the MO/KS Transportation Business Group, and HDR's global freight / transit
- Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of freight and transit planning projects / tasks that may include:
- Community, regional and statewide transit / multimodal freight plans
- Passenger Rail service planning
- Intermodal freight studies / plans (including facility / terminal planning)
- Freight / rail / transit agency program management support
- Grade crossing safety analyses
- Freight rail, passenger rail, and transit design
- Economic studies
- Forecasting (ridership, commodity flow, etc.)
- Operational Analysis (RTC, OpenTrack, etc.)
- Use of large datasets (NPMRDS, Replica, StreetLight, INRIX, etc.) to support planning efforts
- Geospatial analysis and mapping
- Public and stakeholder engagement, including railroad and trucking industry stakeholders
- Grant application development and grant administration support (CRISI, RCE, BUILD, CIG, etc.)
- Environmental documents
- Other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Engineering, Planning, Architecture or closely related field
- Maintainenance of a professional or engineering registration and related technical experience
- Demonstrated experience leading diverse teams
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
- Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, national technical directors, and marketing managers
- Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 10 years experience
- Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Good leadership and organizational skills
