Manufacturing & Process Engineering Intern

Schindler Elevator Corporation is currently seeking a Manufacturing & Process Engineering Intern for Summer 2025!

Typical responsibilities for this intern will include:

• Support the development of Lean Manufacturing processes and operations across the factory using lean principles including value stream mapping, process observation, balance and flow to target and implement improvements.
• Assist in establishing operational methods and work standards using measurement techniques (i.e. time/motion studies, takt time evaluations, etc.)
• Assist with problem solving (Kaizen) events by establishing course of action to accomplish task and/or project
• Provides data analysis for manufacturing improvement projects
• Regular contact with others outside the work group in a non-union manufacturing environment
• Support facility layout and design; equipment relocation, layout, flow and quality optimization projects and Kaizen event(s).
• Support 5S events and audits showing improvement.
• Support communication initiatives to highlight successful Kaizens and improvement projects.
• Identify and Create visual management tools in work areas
• Creation of Standard Work Instructions via VKS tool that will be used for training for producing our elevator components so Safety, Quality and Delivery are achieved with the optimal cost.
  
  

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Electrical/Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
• Sophomore/Junior Status (Preferred but not required) - Good academic standing.
• Ability for a high degree of interaction with the manufacturing shop floor processes and employees.
• Ability to work effectively in a variety of administrative, technical, and manufacturing assignments.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all contacts.
• Knowledgeable with drafting/modelling software (Autocad, Solidworks, PRO-E).
• Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player. High level of self-motivation and personal accountability.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office for analyzing data and presenting projects.

• Expected Learning Outcomes include: comprehension of basic lean principles and their effect on the manufacturing environment; apply basic lean tools and support data analysis and presentation of results; root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
• You will be assigned a mentor.
• You will participate in weekly check-in's to monitor project progress.
• Also, there will be an opportunity to present accomplishments, in a group setting, during your tenure at Schindler.
