Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for an Environmental Manager (Open) to join our Team based in Mobile, AL

Position Summary: The Environmental Manager will be an essential part of the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility located in Mobile, AL. This dynamic individual provides the daily guidance for all aspects of environmental compliance (air, water, waste) and continual improvement (ISO 14001) for the site. The position will report to the Sustainability Manager of the Mobile Manufacturing Facility, within the Operational Excellence and Performance Management Organization.

Your working environment:

Nearby on 'Airbus Way' you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus' strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the management and improvement of the site Sustainability & Environmental Management System within the framework of a certified ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Leads, implements and monitors environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure full regulatory compliance.

  • Ensure the site is in ready condition for annual ISO 14001:2015 internal and external certification audits. Coordinates the audits and any follow up actions.

  • Maintains all applicable local, state and federal regulatory documentation and recordkeeping and reporting as necessary for an expanding Large Quantity Generator (LQG) facility.

  • Liaises with all applicable internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and progress towards maintaining regulatory compliance and achieving environmental goals.

  • Leads environmental site audits, routine surveys, launch/track corrective actions, and monitor trends.

  • Provide program support to all departments regarding regulatory compliance requirements and standard operating procedures.

  • Leads the development and review of technical documents including environmental policies, procedures, programs and guidance documents. Reports to Site Leadership any regulatory changes impacting the Mobile Manufacturing Facility.

  • Supporting the Sustainability Manager in meeting corporate and site sustainability targets, develop plans to meet those targets and oversee the delivery.

  • Review and provide guidance for all waste handling and disposal processes.

  • Investigate environmental events to determine how such events can be prevented.

  • Delivers training and communication efforts related to employee, visitor, and contractor training programs.

  • Delivers projects that contribute to sustainability goals of Mobile Manufacturing Facility.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements (Skills needed):

  • The position requires extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

  • Experience in implementing and managing an ISO 14001:2015 program

  • Ability to understand and apply government regulations related to hazardous materials and wastes.

  • Understanding of emerging topics and technologies

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.

  • Ability to maintain and ensure the confidential nature of the position.

  • Excellent Google Workspace skills is a necessity.

Education/Special Qualifications (schooling, certifications):

  • Bachelor Degree in industrial and/or Environmental Engineering or related fields, or certification with 10 years proven experience in an industrial environment.

  • Certifications: PE, CHMM, ISO 14001:2015 Lead and/or Internal Auditor, or any other related certifications in environmental management (Desired)

Physical Requirements:

Vision: adequate to read material on computer screens, and aircraft gauges. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions

Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.

Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.

Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment. Working on fuselage jigs at a height of 15 feet. Able to work on hydraulic lifts sometimes at a height of up to 40 feet.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands (for ex. Lifting, working in heights): capable to support 2 shift system and occasional weekends, based on business needs.

Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 55lbs/25kg while engaging in training, addressing production issues, or as part of continuous improvement projects.

Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 55lbs/25kg.

Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.

Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer, in meetings, or on aircraft.

Squatting/Kneeling: able to work on in the wing or center box in a confined space. Entrance into the wing by a 9.8 inch x 17.7 inch oval opening. Able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.

Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time delivering information.

Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically

Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
