Scope of Responsibilities Program Development & Implementation
- The Program Director develops, implements, and evaluates a diverse range of group camp programs, creating dynamic and engaging experiences for a wide variety of participants. With programming offered on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends, they design activities that foster leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. They oversee both day groups and groups staying overnight, ensuring a seamless, well-coordinated, and enriching experience for all participants. Additionally, they identify new opportunities for program expansion based on market trends, participant needs, and community demand to grow Camp Duncan's impact and reach.
Community Engagement, Business Development & Program Growth
- The Director is responsible for expanding group programs and partnerships at the local, state, and national levels. They actively seek new opportunities to collaborate with schools, medical groups, scouting organizations, youth-serving agencies, corporate retreats, sports teams, home school networks, leadership academies, and outdoor education programs. Additionally, they develop business strategies to grow revenue and maximize facility usage, ensuring Camp Duncan remains a premier destination for group experiences. They work to build long-term relationships with key stakeholders to enhance program offerings and strengthen community ties.
Marketing, Sales & Outreach
- The Director is responsible for developing and executing strategic marketing and sales initiatives to promote Camp Duncan's programs. This includes building and maintaining relationships with key organizations, businesses, and community groups to increase participation. They oversee the creation and distribution of promotional materials, lead direct outreach efforts, and represent Camp Duncan at community events, networking functions, and industry conferences. By leveraging targeted marketing strategies, they expand the camp's visibility, attract new user groups, and ensure consistent enrollment and financial sustainability.
Hospitality & Guest Experience
- Ensuring radical hospitality and customer service is a top priority. The Director serves as the primary point of contact for all groups, ensuring clear communication and a seamless experience before, during, and after their stay. They coordinate detailed schedules, food service, and facility maintenance to enhance guest satisfaction and retention. By fostering a welcoming, service-oriented atmosphere, they build strong customer relationships that drive repeat business and positive word-of-mouth referrals.
Staff Leadership & Training
- This role is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and supervising part-time, stipend, and hourly employees who assist in running program events and other essential camp operations. The Director provides ongoing training and professional development, ensuring that staff are equipped with the skills necessary to support high-quality programming, customer service, and operational efficiency. They instill a culture of teamwork, accountability, and excellence to maintain a high standard of service.
Operations, Risk Management & Facility Coordination
- The Director ensures compliance with safety policies, risk management protocols, and operational procedures to prioritize participant and staff well-being. They maintain accurate records, oversee facility and equipment maintenance, and enforce safety standards for all activities. Partnering with the Executive Director, they continuously refine operational processes to enhance efficiency, guest experience, and resource utilization.
Financial & Administrative Management
- The Director works with the Executive Director to manage the program budget, ensuring financial sustainability and strategic investment in program growth. They collaborate with the Administrative Manager and business office to oversee contracts, payment processing, and financial reporting for group bookings. By analyzing key performance metrics, revenue streams, and enrollment trends, they identify growth opportunities, pricing strategies, and areas for operational improvement. Additionally, they drive new revenue opportunities through strategic partnerships, program diversification, and optimized facility usage to ensure long-term financial health.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus previous YMCA Day or Overnight Camp experience.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
- Experience or ability to learn registration systems, financial transactions, and customer service.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced camp environment.
- Proficiency or ability to learn Microsoft Office, camp management software, and financial tracking systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with families, staff, and vendors effectively.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
- This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Prior training and experience in high ropes courses and adventure/challenge programs is preferred but not required.
- Prior experience as a lifeguard preferred but not required.
