Description

Supervises the telephone operator employees who will answer incoming calls to the School of Medicine and all incoming calls to SIU Healthcare, determine the person/area best able to handle the caller's needs and transfer the call to the appropriate number. Ability to monitor and assist in answering the incoming calls to the School of Medicine and SIU Healthcare, when needed, determine the person/area best able to handle the caller's needs and
transfer the call to the appropriate number.

SIU School of Medicine does not participate in the E-Verify program. Employment eligibility will be verified in accordance with application state and federal laws.


Examples of Duties

Serves as supervisor for area 60%

- Selects, trains, and establishes work schedules for phone operators.
- Prepares evaluations
- Approves time off and arranges for service coverage for absent employees.
- Responsible for establishing procedures and/or policies and revising current policies/procedures when needed
- Excellent communication with staff and conveying information to the employees
- Continued observation of staff.

15% Maintains centralized database information and inputs provider information into central database to maximize routing of calls.

13% Provide general information to callers concerning appropriate university offices, location of university events, and other information as requested by the callers.

11% Responds to all incoming and interoffice calls and transfer's callers to appropriate parties. Informs departments on feedback of accessibility to calls

1% Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the operation of telephone equipment comparable to that of the unit in which the position is located.
