Job Summary:

The individual in this positions will 1) provide technical, organizational, and teaching support for our large-enrollment general biochemistry courses for science majors and non-science majors, 2) develop courses for greater freshman and sophomore contact with our undergraduate majors, and 3) foster the incorporation of evidence-based, effective teaching practices across all our courses, including opportunities to collaborate with colleagues on additional pedagogical and administrative functions.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:
1) Teaching during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters
2) Leading discussion sections and holding office hours for students
3) Creating quizzes, exams, problem sets, and problem set solutions
4) Managing websites for several undergraduate courses including maintaining and tabulating students' point totals from exams, quizzes, etc. grades
5) Overseeing an undergraduate peer-mentoring system that provides small-group tutoring for at-risk students
6) Coordinating the efforts of graduate student teaching assistants
7) Assisting faculty in creating pedagogically effective materials for class presentation
8) Developing new undergraduate courses in collaboration with research faculty
8) Serving as an ombudsperson for enrolled students

Biochemical, molecular, biological, or related field


Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) A broad knowledge of the molecular basis of biological processes.
2) Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based, effective science-based teaching methodologies and curriculum development strategies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) The ability to master the range of software required for large-enrollment courses such as the UW's Canvas course management system, chemical-drawing software, presentation software, active-learning software, and technology for student in-class participation.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The minimum salary for this position is $70,000. However, the final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
