Reporting directly to the CRS Business Unit (BU) President, the Vice President of Technical Operations & Continuous Improvement will play a pivotal role in driving the operational and strategic growth of CRS. This leader will partner closely with the CRS Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and other functional teams to execute key initiatives that support CRS's broader business objectives. The VP will lead the Monthly Business Reviews, deploy operations goal-setting processes, and develop action plans to translate division objectives into site-specific initiatives. The role is critical in identifying and implementing improvement opportunities through scorecard review, observation, benchmarking, and business case analysis. A key responsibility will be managing the success of Operations Excellence projects and ensuring the successful execution of those deemed critical. This role also involves educating, training, and mentoring individuals identified as Operations Excellence points of contact (POCs) across the business unit. This position will research and adapt alternative operational and business process methods for sector and corporate use, leading and coordinating methodology enhancement pilot projects that could involve multiple sites. The ideal candidate will possess strong operational excellence tools and a deep understanding of business financials, with a proven track record in operational leadership. High-Level Responsibilities: Champion continuous improvement efforts across all CRS sites to ensure operational excellence in performance, efficiency, and product quality.
- Lead and mentor leadership teams in the implementation of lean, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence principles to drive high-impact results.
- Collaborate with leadership teams to prioritize and implement improvement efforts aligned with CRS's strategic goals and long-term vision.
- Lead and manage complex, high-priority Operations Excellence projects, such as site rationalization strategies, logistics optimization, and direct labor utilization improvements.
- Develop and implement performance, efficiency, and product quality standards for all production cells and service operations within the Business Unit (BU).
- Ensure operational goals are met through collaborative initiatives across a matrix organization, leveraging data and analytics to monitor and measure critical performance metrics such as turnaround time, efficiency, productivity, COPQ, etc.
- Participate in strategic business planning, including manpower, equipment, and facility capacity planning, to support forecasted sales and operational needs.
- Identify and manage continuous improvement projects that adapt to technological, legal, regulatory, and product updates, and plan for necessary changes to equipment, production systems, and work methods.
- Lead efforts to enhance the competitive position and profitability of CRS operations through the development and implementation of innovative policies and programs.
- Contribute to the leadership of CRS as a key member of the Business Unit Senior Leadership Team (SLT), collaborating on the development and execution of strategic plans, budgets, and goals.
- Foster a high-performance culture through proactive hiring, coaching, mentoring, and effective performance management of leaders and project teams.
Specific Accountabilities: Operational Assessment
- Lead the development of business cases and diagnostics to secure buy-in and funding for major operational improvement projects.
- Monitor and ensure sustained operational performance within the Business Area (BA) and work with local management to correct conditions that do not align with BA objectives.
- Coordinate and participate in operations audits, including informal focused audits, and leverage external benchmarking data to drive improvements.
Gaining and Sharing Knowledge
- Mentor and train individuals progressing through the Operations Excellence pipeline, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Benchmark and adopt best practices internally and externally, sharing knowledge across CRS sites and Business Units to standardize operations and improve efficiency.
- Train project teams on new methods, tools, and processes to ensure consistency and alignment across CRS sites.
Leadership and Project Execution
- Work with stakeholder teams to design and implement improvements, ensuring they align with business goals and operational strategies.
- Seek buy-in and approval from the appropriate leadership levels for each improvement opportunity, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
- Oversee resource allocation for high-priority Operations Excellence projects, ensuring the right talent and tools are available to execute successfully.
- Lead cross-functional project teams, ensuring milestones are met, and projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with validated results.
- Conduct regular milestone reviews, assess project quality and completeness, and guide projects to their intended conclusions.
- Identify and maintain a list of future Operations Excellence projects and initiatives to ensure ongoing improvement efforts.
Safety Management Systems (SMS) Accountabilities:
- Recognize and understand the critical safety aspects of flight/product safety parts and processes.
- Ensure immediate reporting of any flight/product safety concerns and actively participate in risk analysis and mitigation efforts for safety-critical parts and processes.
Technical Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in operational leadership roles, with a proven track record of delivering sustainable results
- University degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong project management skills with experience leading large, complex projects and initiatives across multiple locations.
- Financial analysis and business case development expertise, with a strong ability to link operational improvements to financial outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to all levels of leadership.
- Strong presentation and preparation skills for executive-level meetings and strategic decision-making forums.
Preferred Characteristics:
- Experience in a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) environment is strongly preferred
