Library Technician: Access Services

Job Details

Provides public services to library patrons at Scott Memorial Library, Center City campus. Assists Manager of Access Services, Evening & Weekend Access Services Coordinator, and the staffs of Learning Resources, Information Services, Collection Management, and University Archives in performing routine library operations and special projects.

This is a full-time position that provides services primarily on weekday afternoons and evenings. It is an on-site, 40-hour a week position.

Normal schedule:
* Monday-Thursday, 10am-7pm (with 60-minute lunch)
* Friday, 8am-5pm (with 60-minute lunch)

The work schedule will adjust during University term breaks and to cover staffing gaps.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Provides circulation and reserves services to library patrons.
  • Assists patrons with library technology, including printing & scanning.
  • Performs collections maintenance operations for print and electronic materials.
  • Provides directional assistance and ready reference for library patrons in a variety of modalities: in-person, phone, chat, email.
  • Interprets library policy and services to users.
  • Participates in training and skill development with other members of the libraries team.
  • Scan and digitize materials for inclusion in Jefferson Digital Commons. Assist with other University Archives projects as assigned.
  • Substitute for other members of the department as needed.
  • Cross-train for Library Resource functions and provide coverage as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate records and statistics.
  • Serve as "designated emergency staff" during weather & other emergencies.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Experience using personal computers, Apple desktop & mobile devices, and major software programs (email, web browser, Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of and experience using Springshare library tools is preferred.
  • Proven commitment to customer service.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • High School or GED equivalent required. B.A./B.S. preferred.

AND

Experience:

  • 2 years of library work experience preferred.
