Chicago State University is seeking a Head Football coach to join its athletic department and build a new NCAA FCS Division I program. The Head Football Coach is responsible for assisting administration with fundraising, program development, and launching the program.
After program launch, the Head Football Coach is responsible for planning and directing the recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student athletes, along with fiscal and overall program management for the football program.
The successful candidate will support a positive academic, athletics, and social environment for student-athletes while building a culture of excellence.
Job Description

  • Actively engage with alumni and the community to enhance program support and visibility.
  • Adheres to fundraising strategies as required by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (or designee).
  • Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Manage the football program's operational budget, including travel and equipment.
  • Instructs student-athletes regarding expectations for academic achievement; monitors the academic progress of student-athletes in accordance with institutional and CSU Athletics policies and procedures.
  • Support a positive academic, athletic, and social environment for student-athletes within the football program creating a culture of excellence and ethics.
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication as it relates to internal (coaching staff, student-athletes, athletic staff) and external (fans, parents, alumni, prospects, campus community, etc.)
  • Design and implement effective training programs, practices, and game plans that maximize player development and team performance.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes able to thrive at Chicago State University in the classroom and on the field of play
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and other staff as assigned. Direct and coordinate the activities of the assistant football coaches in the planning, organizing, and coaching of the football team.
  • Understands and follows National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), athletic conference, and institutional regulations. Observes Head Coach Responsibility in the training, communication, and accountability of staff. Reports any violation of NCAA, athletic conference, and institutional regulations in accordance with CSU Athletics policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. All job duties described above require an understanding of and compliance with the rules and regulations of the NCAA, the athletic conference, and Chicago State University.


Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree required.
* Knowledge of applicable NCAA Rules and regulations.
* Knowledge and basic proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Proficiency to produce scouting reports, recruiting evaluations, and complete work within deadlines.
* Ability to develop and sustain relationships with alumni, donors,prospective student-athletes, parents, and coaches.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree preferred.
* Experience playing at the collegiate level is preferred.
* Coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Skills to help student-athletes improve through training/coaching.
* Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.

Physical Requirement/ Demands
Job requires prolonged standing or walking, frequent bending and crouching, lifting and carrying moderate weights (up to 50 pounds), exposure to weather elements, and the ability to actively participate in drills demonstrating techniques to players,
Work Environment
Located on the campus of Chciago State University. Will require overnight travel. May work long hours, including weekends and evenings.
