Overview

Individual will work with various Information Technology (IT) and business teams to enhance and optimize the company's IT portfolio by providing strong technical direction on IT's short and long-term strategies. Individual will Influence IT's technical standards through collaboration with Enterprise Architecture and ensure that the standards are being implemented consistently. Individual will also drive the direction of the technology modernization program through collaboration with IT's architects and systems managers. Individual will participate in benchmarks with leading utilities and cross-industry experts. Individual must be expert in a wide range of technologies, providing valuable insights, knowledge, and direction on the architecture and engineering of IT's applications and platforms. Individual must be a thought leader, successfully and productively collaborating with the various business areas and IT teams to support the business priorities of the company while executing the IT strategy and vision. Individual will provide mentorship to aspiring IT Solutions Delivery Solutions Engineers and Junior Solutions Engineers.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Drives the solution engineering around one or more technology domains (e.g. application, data, advanced technologies, Software As A Service, Operating Systems, Mobility, etc) &/or business process engineering. Engineering includes conceptual or actual/physical representations or models.
  • Directs the development and evaluation of roadmaps for applications, technologies and infrastructure, including vendor and internally developed applications.
  • Collaborates with peers; researches, establishes and updates technical standards; manages application development lifecycle and methodologies, provides oversight on processes and other governance responsibilities.
  • Monitors the IT & business industry as well as best practices; develops strategies for implementation. Communicates & influences strategic direction & can represent IT at senior executive level.
  • Provides guidance and/or conducts architectural, configuration, solution & quality reviews. Takes the lead on issues requiring coordination with all internal IT groups and other organizations, including vendors to ensure that issues are addressed. Directs team members as required for resolution.
  • Provides direction on significant, high-impact issues requiring coordination with all internal IT groups and other organizations, including vendors to ensure that issues are addressed.
  • Leads large teams in the development of new/enhanced IT products from project initiation through user acceptance and implementation including planning, requirements gathering, business analysis, design, development (coding, configuration, customization), testing, training, and implementation. IT products include new custom applications, major enhancements to existing systems or vendor packaged applications, any of which may be enterprise-scale affecting multiple companies and departments and integrating with multiple systems. Develops transition plan for project responsibilities to a long-term support structure after project implementation.
  • Manages vendor resources to deliver high quality deliverables according to agreed upon timeframes and costs.
  • Develops staff as needed; research/provide recommendation on technical training, evaluates/provides feedback for skill development of junior technical staff. Create reusable standards & patterns (e.g., reference architecture).
  • Ensures alignment of technology solutions with IT standards, documentation requirements and guiding principles. Ensures supportability, scalability, maintainability, reliability, data security, cost efficiency and alignment across IT domains including IT Systems Delivery and IT Engineering & Operations.
  • Manage projects including but not limited to resources, scope, budget (costs), schedule & overall project plans. Along with performing other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum 8 years experience designing, developing, implementing, and operating
  • technologies in one or more IT domains, e.g. applications, data, solution, infrastructure, process change management.
  • Master's Degree and a minimum 6 years experience designing, developing, implementing, and operating
  • technologies in one or more IT domains, e.g. applications, data, solution, infrastructure, process change management.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferably in IT, computer science, business administration, engineering or decision sciences including mathematics, analytics,
  • quantitative methods. and a minimum 8 years experience designing, developing, implementing, and operating
  • technologies in one or more IT domains, e.g. applications, data, solution, infrastructure, process change management.
  • Master's Degree Preferably in IT, computer science, business administration, engineering or decision sciences including mathematics, analytics,
  • quantitative methods. and a minimum 6 years experience designing, developing, implementing, and operating
  • technologies in one or more IT domains, e.g. applications, data, solution, infrastructure, process change management.
Relevant Work Experience
  • A minimum of five years leadership or managerial experience, required.
  • Must have a solid understanding of architectural concepts and practices leading to solutions that are reliable, maintainable, reusable, scalable and extensible, e.g. service oriented architectures, required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate that they have strong emotional intelligence (empathy, self-knowledge). Candidates must demonstrate ability to persuade and collaborate through influencing, listening, acting on feedback, balanced exploration of alternatives and building relationships. Candidates must be agile learners and demonstrate continuous self-development. Candidates should demonstrate high energy and a passion for customers, required.
  • Experience managing, coaching and developing new or lesser-experienced team members required, including project activities such as design and/or code reviews and guidance regarding SDLC or Agile methodologies or service-oriented architectures, required.
  • Experience with guiding business or technology managers towards architecturally sound decisions using collaboration, influence and advisory skills. Experience presenting concise, jargon-free, easy-to-understand technical topics to executives, required.
  • Experience with writing or modifying standards and procedures, templates or toolkits. Experience working with peers to develop new reference architectures, tools, methods to be adopted by the IT organization, required.
  • Must be conversant in emerging technologies and practices, e.g. Big Data/Analytics, Cloud (SaaS, PaaS), mobile, sensors (Internet of Things), required.
  • Manage projects including but not limited to resources, scope, budget (costs), schedule & overall project plans, required.
  • Experience identifying and vetting vendor products preferred, including developing requests for proposal, vendor research and proposal evaluation. Experience preferred in planning for vendor technology upgrades or obsolescence management, required.
  • Must be flexible and able to work off-hours as required to support deployments, resolve production problems or respond to corporate emergencies, required.
  • Experience participating on multi-disciplinary review boards a plus, preferred.
