Job Summary

The Respiratory Care Supervisor 2 in the Blood Gas Laboratory (BGL) supervises operations for the Blood Gas Laboratory and staff. Staff performs specimen processing, transport, analysis and result reporting. Supervisors and staff are responsible for maintaining all licensing, regulatory standard and quality assurance standards as defined in the Blood Gas Laboratory standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current California Respiratory Practitioner (RCP) State License.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Bachelor's degree or in progress.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an RCP in an Acute Care Hospital or Blood Gas Lab.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and ability in personnel management, administrative coordination, fiscal policy and clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology to provide clinical leadership within the Blood Gas Laboratory.
  • Ability to collaborate with medical, nursing and Clinical Laboratory staff to accomplish department functions.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems (EPIC Beaker/HIS/EMR/Lab Manager, etc.)Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA, National Center for Clinical laboratory Standards (NCCLS), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and clinical laboratory safety regulations)
  • Tact and diplomacy skills to allow working with people in both supervisory and subordinate relationships.
  • Judgement skills to assess situations quickly and flexibility in response to changing conditions.
  • Skills in oral and written communication, data analysis and numerical computation to prepare correspondence, reports and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a team leader.
  • Experience planning and conducting in-service education and training.
  • Experience with Performance Improvement processes.

Department Overview

The BGL is a 24/7 365 days per year STAT laboratory that processes over 40,000 samples per month with an approximate 5-minute sample processing time. The BGL is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and licensed by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CLIA). The BGL must follow strict regulatory requirements.

Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
