Job Description

General Summary:

The Disease Area Clinical Budget Lead is an important member of the Global Clinical Operations team at Vertex. Your primary responsibility will be managing and overseeing the budgeting and financial forecasting for clinical trials in a designated therapeutic area while aligning with the organization's strategic goals. This role requires close collaboration with cross functional teams such as study teams, outsourcing and finance teams to ensure accurate financial planning and reporting.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

* Monitors the financial health of a program, study and/or vendor (project specifications, units, invoicing, change orders, forecasting) and acts as a liaison with finance as needed.
* Presents regular updates to clinical teams and senior management on trends and risks associated with the external spend across a designated disease area.
* Works closely with clinical study team to build forecasts to predict external spend based upon changes in outsourcing operating model and protocol design.
* Develops, documents and maintains the forecasting methodologies used by finance for annual and long-range budget planning.
* Understand clinical trial protocols and portfolio planning to align with functional leads on outsourcing requirements and study timelines, ensuring accurate and comprehensive financial input for senior leadership.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

* Background in clinical budgeting, financial planning, and clinical trial forecasting
* Strong understanding of protocol concepts, clinical activities, and outsourcing.
* Demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage multiple disease areas, balancing competing demands and ensuring timely and accurate oversight across diverse clinical programs.
* Proven ability to use multiple databases and large datasets.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to motivate and teach others, fostering collaborative learning environment across team members.
* Ability to independently gather and understand research across a multi-faceted organization (remote).

Requirements:

* BA/BS degree

* Typically requires 6-8 years of work experience with 4-5 years of that experience with clinical trial budgets or clinical trials, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range:

$128,000 - $191,900

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Remote-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Remote: work remotely five days per week and come into the office on occasion - you're always welcome on-site; or select
2. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
3. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
