The College of Education is seeking applicants for the Lora W. King Distinguished Professorship starting Fall 2025. Professorship is open only to current full-time members who are tenured and hold the rank of Professor or Associate Professor within the College of Education.
Responsibilities include:
1. Advocate for discipline and education specific best practices, strategies and initiatives as appropriate.
2. Take a leadership role in ensuring ECU's College of Education prepares educators, education-related professionals, and educational leaders to implement high-quality and research-based curricula.
3. Plan, implement, and evaluate professional development and partnerships with school and community organizations that enhance discipline specific teaching, learning, and leadership in Eastern North Carolina.
4. Coordinate, conduct, and publish meaningful research to advance the field's understanding of discipline-specific issues for the betterment of the community at a level that exceeds that of a traditional college faculty member.
5. Teach two courses (4 courses per year) within their discipline, or in another area where needed, during each of the fall and spring terms in collaboration with the department chair. There will be an option of buying out courses with external funding or with endowment funds.
6. Serve and at times lead program, department, and university committees.
7. Serve as a mentor and partner to junior faculty to aid in their advancement towards tenure.
8. Work with other College of Education departments to foster partnerships and to pursue the advancement of the college through shared common goals.
9. Work with other Distinguished Professors in the College to foster partnerships to pursue the advancement of the college through shared common goals.
10. Work with state and national organizations (governmental, professional, and philanthropic) to seek external funding opportunities for Eastern North Carolina through the College of Education.
11. Seek and obtain external funding to further research and community engagement efforts of the college.
12. Be a resource for the college, university, community through service.
