Essential Job Duties |
Job Summary: The Spinning Lab Manager will oversee and manage all operations within the spinning laboratory at the Wilson College of Textiles. This role involves maintaining a safe and efficient work environment, engaging with potential customers to grow laboratory revenues, and serving as an expert resource in the conversion of fiber to yarn. The manager will also support academic activities and ensure the laboratory's equipment is well-maintained and up-to-date.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a Clean and Safe Work Environment:
- Ensure the spinning laboratory is clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an up-to-date laboratory safety plan.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and address any issues promptly.
- Engage with Potential Customers:
- Identify and engage with potential customers to build business relationships.
- Promote the laboratory's services to increase revenue.
- Provide tours and demonstrations to showcase the laboratory's capabilities.
- Prepare Fabrication Service Agreement (FSA) Estimates:
- Accurately estimate costs for fabrication services.
- Write and negotiate FSAs with customers.
- Ensure all agreements are clear, detailed, and meet customer expectations.
- Coordinate and Complete FSA Work:
- Plan, organize, and oversee all work associated with FSAs.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Communicate with customers throughout the project to provide updates and address any concerns.
- Invoice for Work Performed:
- Prepare and submit invoices for completed work through the business office.
- Ensure all billing is accurate and timely.
- Follow up on any outstanding payments.
- Expert Resource for Fiber to Yarn Conversion:
- Provide expertise and guidance on all aspects of converting fiber to yarn.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements.
- Offer technical support and troubleshooting for any issues that arise.
- Maintain and Service Equipment:
- Regularly inspect and maintain all yarn manufacturing equipment.
- Schedule and perform routine maintenance and repairs.
- Solicit quotes and oversee the purchase of new equipment as needed.
- Assist with Academic Classes:
- Support and instruct academic classes held in the spinning laboratory.
- Provide hands-on training and demonstrations for students.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate laboratory activities into the curriculum.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's degree and two years of general research experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Extensive knowledge of spinning processing, equipment and machine maintenance.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Experience in lab safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Extensive experience in fiber to yarn conversion, especially a mix of industry and academic institution experience.
