Nature and Scope

The Facility Mechanic Intern will assist the facilities team in maintaining and repairing equipment, systems, and infrastructure within the facility. This internship provides hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and other building systems. The intern will work under the supervision of experienced mechanics to gain practical knowledge in facility management and maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with regular maintenance and repair of facility mechanical systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other equipment.
  • Help troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues related to building infrastructure with routine and non-routine maintenance tasks.
  • Perform routine inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure proper functionality and identify potential issues.
  • Support the team in preventive maintenance tasks, such as HVAC checks, replacing filters, cleaning system components.
  • Aid in the preparation of Facility work orders and maintenance records as required by Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Work with the facilities team to plan and execute minor repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Help with inventory management, including ordering parts and tools as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining facility building systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Assist with emergency repairs and troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment as directed.
  • Participate in team meetings and trainings related to facility operations and safety.
  • Perform any other tasks/duties as assigned by management.

Education Requirements and Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Associate's degree in mechanical engineering technology, required.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Familiarity with tools, safety protocols, and maintenance procedures, preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment or parts, if necessary.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
  • NYS driver license.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Physical Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending, stretching, standing, walking, able to carry filters, tools, motors, wires.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles.

Expected Hourly Rate:

$20.00
