Mechanical Engineer ajc Job Duties and Responsibilities Project Leadership & Design Ownership Take full responsibility for the mechanical design lifecycle of individual projects, from concept through development, validation, and implementation. Ensure all project milestones are completed on time and within scope. Lead the development of new designs, focusing on functionality, manufacturability, and meeting customer and company requirements. 3D Modeling, Prototyping & Engineering Drawings Create detailed 3D models of components and assemblies using SolidWorks to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and meet specifications. Develop prototypes and manage hands-on testing to validate design concepts and make necessary adjustments to improve performance and reliability. Generate accurate and detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing, providing clear specifications and instructions for production teams. Design Updates & Process Improvement Continuously review and update designs to incorporate improvements, address feedback, or adapt to changes in project requirements. Implement new processes and product designs into production, optimizing for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacturing. Supplier Collaboration & RFQ Management Manage the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process by preparing detailed specifications and collaborating with suppliers to obtain cost estimates and material options. Work closely with procurement and suppliers to ensure that materials and components meet technical, budgetary, and production requirements. Validation Planning, Testing & Reporting Plan and execute validation processes to ensure that designs meet performance, durability, and safety standards. Lead testing efforts, gather and analyze data from tests and prototypes, and make design adjustments based on performance metrics. Regularly report project progress, technical challenges, and updates to the Engineering Manager and other key stakeholders, ensuring all information is communicated clearly. Cross-functional Collaboration Collaborate with other departments (manufacturing, quality assurance, procurement, etc.) to ensure designs are integrated seamlessly into production and meet overall product goals. Work with internal and external teams to ensure that all product specifications and technical details are met, leading to successful project outcomes. Desired Skills and Competencies Creativity and Problem-Solving Ability to explore new design ideas and develop innovative solutions for complex mechanical challenges. Conceptualization, Visualization, and Design Strong ability to sketch and visualize design concepts, translating abstract ideas into practical, manufacturable designs using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks). Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Knowledge In-depth understanding of mechanical design principles and traditional manufacturing processes (milling, turning, sheet metal), as well as with experience in additive manufacturing (3D printing). Engineering Analysis and Prototyping Proficient in conducting engineering analysis (e.g., FEA), building prototypes, and performing hands-on testing to validate and optimize designs. Project Management and Attention to Detail Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion while maintaining high levels of precision and quality. Communication and Collaboration Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and present design updates to stakeholders. Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement Skilled in gathering, analyzing, and applying data from tests and simulations to improve designs, ensuring they meet performance standards. Validation and Troubleshooting Experience in conducting validation testing, troubleshooting design issues, and ensuring compliance with performance and safety requirements. Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME or BSMET) with 1-3 years of experience in mechanical design or product development. Technical Proficiency Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360) and familiarity with engineering analysis tools (e.g., FEA, CFD). Manufacturing Knowledge Strong understanding of traditional and additive manufacturing processes, with hands-on experience in prototyping and testing. Industry Standards and Materials Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASME, ISO) and material properties of metals, polymers, and composites. Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills Strong ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and optimize designs for performance and reliability. Project Management and Collaboration Experience managing projects, with proficiency in Lean Manufacturing or process improvement, and excellent communication skills for teamwork. Work Environment Adaptability Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work for extended periods in front of a computer. Compensation Salary $70,000-$80,000 depending on experience PTO 2 Weeks of Vacation 3 sick/personal days Insurance Eligible the 1st of the month after 60 days from start date |
